Software upgrade (v5050) on a FL 1.4 TSI

Featured Replies

I have searched for threads on this but found none. Sorry, if I overlooked any hits.

Last Thursday I took the car to a VAG garage to troubleshoot my boot lid rattle. While they were investigating the source of the burr, I asked them to check if a new version was available for my ECU (MFD July 2009). And there was!

A major upgrade was downloaded directly from Skoda, then installed and set up in a mere ten minutes.

The software upgrade was a major one, as the version number is now v5050. Unfortunately, they had no idea about what parameters (or functions, features, values etc.) the upgrade touched in effect.

When driving home after the upgrade, the engine felt more responsive at lower revs as well. Up to now, I have not been able to test what else changed or how differently the car/engine behaves when not in city trudge.

Does anyone know what exactly the differences are between versions 3981 and 5050?

Not quite the answer you're looking for but i've heard on the new models if you have a remap and dealer flashes the ecu you have to buy a new remap as the existing one is matched to the original ecu code or something??

Anyone know??

Sorry to hijack?

It might be true, however my ECU has never been remapped. The dealer installed a new ECU software, overwriting the previous warranted one.

Below is Škoda's reply.

Dear Mr. T,

Via Škoda Info-Line we received your email, in which you asked us for further information about software upgrade for 1,4 TSI engine.

We are really sorry, but this type of information about software changes is know-how of VW group development and we are not competent to communicate to the public.

Our specialists are still working on optimizing software to reach the best possible results. Therefore we are pleased, that with new version of ECU software you feel better engine performance.

Kind Regards,

Škoda - Simply clever.

If a dealer "flashes" the ECU ROM with new software (should really be firmware) & it goes wrong, then they'll have to pay for any damage inflicted on the cars ECU & if that means they have to replace the ECU to make the car roadworthy again, then so be it.
