Can worn bearings make tyres wear uneven?

Featured Replies

I have a funny wearing tyre from the passengers side rear.

I am just interested as the tyre seems to have flat spots were the tread is pritty low and others that is deep.

I have been feeling that the bearing is on its way for a while but there is no grinding and no excessive vibration.

The rear tyres on my Mk2 Octy wear like that apparently its common on FWD cars the funny tyre wear will give a sound like the bearings are shot it may well dissappear when they are changed

lol,

you can rotate the hub and its fine then at one position you go past its gets a very slight scratch then goes back to smooth, always at the same position

Yes, at least in principle. It's the the same issue as a worn track-rod end or a track control arm bush causing uneven wear; the wheel no longer tracks true.

That's OK unless it drags a lot. Probably the brake disc dragging a little. If you can turn it past by hand easily, it's not a big concern.

If you suspect brake drag, back the pistons into the caliper (fronts) or remove the pads.
