Need Help - Should I buy a Yeti?

Featured Replies

Hi all

First time on here and looks like a great forum.

We are intersted in buying the Yeti Elegance but have a few questions.

1.Like many others, my wife and I have not seen any new Yeti's on the road so we're not sure whether it's going to be a good seller.

2.We want an automatic, preferably diesel (not sure if there is a diesel automatic). With this in mind does anyone know which of the Yeti's have the best MPG. Is the Elegance economical compared to other 4x4s?

3.Is there still a stigma surrounding Skoda?

Have a lot more questions before we put in an order, but would really appreciate your help!

Seems to be selling OK. Reviews are all positive.

No diesel automatics yet. Apparently they're coming later in the year. The onl;y auto at the moment is the 1.2 TSi DSG petrol. Elegance is a trim level that is available with a variety of engines so without knowing which engine you'retalking about it's hard to comment on economy. Having said that all of the engines are pretty economical with the exception of the 1.8TSi petrol, although even that isn't too bad considering the performance.

3.Is there still a stigma surrounding Skoda?

No, not as far as I'm concerned. I've driven an Octavia for the last three years and have just ordered a Yeti. No-one has ever criticised my choice.

Have a lot more questions before we put in an order, but would really appreciate your help!

Go to your local Skoda dealer and have a test drive. If you are not sure then wait a while and go back for another.

Thanks for your quick replies.

So the only automatic is the 1.2 TSi DSG petrol. At least I now know which Yeti to go for.

But you say there are different engine size. Do you know what they are and which of these will have the best MPG?

My choice will come down to which of the Yeti's have the best MPG.

They seem to be selling like hot cakes at the moment :)

And welcome to Briskoda :)

You can download a brochure from the Skoda website with all the spec and fuel consumption data.

http://www.skoda.co.uk/brochures/default.aspx

I believe the110 CR diesel in 2wd has the best consumption figures. In the 4wd modesl the 140 CR diesel has the best figures by a tiny amount, there is very little between the 110, 140 or 170 CR diesels.

There are only two petrols 1.2 TSi and 1.8 TSi and the 1.2 TSi has much better figures.

Welcome,

Automatic DSG Diesels will be available later on this year I seam to recall from another post. The diesels will give the best economy. The yeti has so far won many awards so it is well thought of against the opposition. They are receiving rave reviews. Skodas where once scorned at but not any more. I suggest that you read suitable threads in this forum and echo the comment above, take one out for a test drive.

Hi and welcome to the SMOC forum.

The 1.2TSI (105 bhp) 7 speed DSG is due to start in production next week, so the first ones should arrive here beginning of March. Fuel consumption should on a combined cycle be around 38-39mpg I would expect.

There will be a 2.0 TDI 4x4 (140 bhp) 6 speed DSG entering production all being well at the beginning of June so available here from July. Fuel consumption at a rough guess will be on a combined cycle 40-41 mpg, based on the VW Tiguan auto with this engine.

For the on-line brochure see My link.

Regards,

TP

I'll add my welcome to the others.

I have yet to see a poor write up on the Yeti in either the motoring or non-motoring press - in fact they all enthuse about it.

Skoda did once have a poor reputation but now most people know that they are part of VAG and reflect excellent value for money. Have fun choosing which SM suits you best! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

You will still encounter the occasional twit recycling Jasper Carrot jokes from the 80s. The best response is either to stare at them like they're an idiot (which they are) or to demonstrate the quality and heft of the Skoda tyre iron. :)

Just a quiet smile, enjoying the inner warmth from having aquired a quality, competent vehicle at significantly lower cost - let the ignorant stay uninformed, so the price stays reasonable.

Reminds me of the old question: "What's the difference between ignorance and apathy ?"

"I don't know and I don't care."

But I so enjoy the bludgeoning. :(

;)

Skoda's reputation is now almost uniformly good, but i still meet a few people who can't get over the brand image. The latter approach might be just about understandable for trivial purchases, but you'd think people would base multi-thousand £ buying decisions on something more substantial!

Hi all

Thanks for your comments much appreciated..

By the looks of it I will be test driving the 1.2TSI (105 bhp) - Am I right in saying this is the only automatic available at the moment?

And as a rough guess this does around 38mpg urban?

Hi, I think that you aught to look up the brochure on line or get one from Skoda direct or a showroom.

The Plumber above indicated that the 1.2 105 bhp is the only auto version starting production next week until June when a diesel 140 will get the DSG

Fuel consumption1.2 DSG

Urban 29.4 mpg

Extra Urban 50.4 mpg

Combined 39.8 mpg

0 - 60 mph 12 seconds

maximum speed 108 mph

Fuel consumption 140 manual just to give you an idea,

Urban 37.7 mpg

Extra Urban 53.5 mpg

Combined 46.3 mpg

0 - 60 mph 9.9 seconds

maximum speed 118 mph

:rofl::rofl: But you only get a wheel brace (nearest thing to a tyre iron) if you order the spare wheel option. :D:D:D

Which I did. :)

It could be argued that there is a satisfying reverse snobbery about owning a Skoda. The silent pleasure of knowing that you are driving a higher quality car than the ill informed buffoon that chooses to mock you from behind the wheel of his Peugeot / Ford / Vauxhall / Toyota.....

Also, if you have a Yeti you can just roll right over them.

Well, as long as you took the optional 140" alloy upgrades.

I got over my car snobbery when VW, Ford and Seat bought out the same MPV. The Seat was the best value for money at the time. Rolls Royce has a BMW engine and so on.

I bought my Yeti purely on the strength of the test drive and a bit of reading up - I do not regret my decision. It has a good lot of VW bits in it and its well built - 3 year guarantee is a bit mean (see Kia 7 year) but better than the old one year.

I bought the car not the name.

I agree with Terfyn,

I am buying the car only on its merits. I do not care what the manufacturer is, I have no brand loyalty and never have done. Nor do I have blacklists or prejudices against any manufacturer. Perhaps my next car could be Chinese, who knows. The discounted prices for Yeti makes it very attractive and competitive. It is such a good car from lots of perspectives.

For me at the end of the day the car speaks for itself.

Just booked two train tickets to go to pick up Yeti. About 180 miles in 2 hours at £11 each.!!

Perhaps I will sell the Yeti and buy a train
