2005 Octavia diagnostic software - which one?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recently bought a 2005 Skoda Octavia 2.0l TDi L&K and am looking to get hold of some diagnostic software for fault code reading and Diagnostic tests etc. I'm a control system engineer by trade so you'd think this stuff would come easy to me, but having done a few web searches it's odvious that there's a lot of different software and a lot of different leads. Also my car seems to be made on a year that the systems changed from OBD to CAN so I'm just getting more confused.

My question is What type of software and lead would you recommend for my Octavia, where can I get it from and how much will it cost?

Thanks

Greg

VAGCOM is now known as VCDS and is pretty much the standard software solution for VAG fault scanning/tweaking. Genuine Ross Tech cables/software is not cheap but a potential group buy is on the go. You can pick up Chinese cloned HEX+CAN cables from the bay but 1) They are fake/knock off cables of unknown quality/reliability. 2) You're usually tied to a specific older version of the software without updates/support 3) The developers frequent the dedicated forum on here to support the product, you get constant updates for new cars so it's defiantly worth it if you plan on sticking to VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda.

Hope that helps :)

The ebay leads do not work on CAN based vehicles (like the MKII Octavia)
