Autoglym Surface Detailing Clay Kit

Featured Replies

Anyone tried this kit yet? Was thinking of this followed by some Collinite 476?

Si.

I would strongly suggest a polish stage after the claying but before the wax.

Autoglym Super Resin Polish (SRP) is excellent value for money and fine for application by hand if you want to keep it simple.

Ok thanks. Here is the kit http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=EIEL&Range=1 It includes the clay bar, lubricant, SRP, and a couple of cloths. I guess I could just buy a clay bar and lubricant, as I already have a large bottle of SRP.

Any suggestions to which is the best clay bar/lube for the money?

Si.

You can find the Meguiars clay / clay box / lube kits quite cheap on ebay sometimes. Very easy to use and great results.

The link you posted doesn't mention the SRP and cloths at all - it just says "This kit contains a Surface Detailing Clay Bar together with an instant detailing lubricant (Rapid Detailer)."

I wonder if the deal with SRP and cloths is something that a particular supplier has put together as a bundle? Maybe you can clarify? Sorry to appear pedantic but I would hate for someone to buy this and not get what they think they are getting.

Anyway in your case you say you already have the SRP so it does make sense to just buy a clay kit. If the Autoglym one is indeed only clay and lubricant then you could consider it, although I haven';t seen it mentioned in the past - is it a new product for them?

Other to consider are the Megs kit as mentioned by wega3k (convenient as its often available in Halfords) or Bilt Hamber Auto Clay. I'm currently using this as it has the advantage of only needing water as a lubricant. Its available online from http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/Store/Product/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=650&gclid=CIjb_ZKYxJ8CFV1d4wod2VuThg and probably others if you Google it.

I haven't used it, but I did use their Rapid Detailer, which seems fine. I second using the SRP afterwards to hide any minor imperfections, before waxing.

It doesn't say it includes SRP ...

A fair few people on here like Bilt Hamber's clay, because it uses water as the lubricant. On Baker21's recommendation I used Sonus's SFX Ultra Fine green clay (first time claying - first car, actually!), because it's apparently super-fine and won't scratch if you over-do it (so a bit of idiot-proofing for me ;)), with Autoglym Rapid Detailer as the lubricant, which was fine worked. I cut 1 of the 2 bars into 3, and that did the entire car, although I used most of the bottle of Rapid Detailer (perhaps I was being a bit generous with it?). Others on here like Meguiars Last Touch cos it lasts ages.

The kit does include SRP but only a small bottle. For a need it tomorrow kit it's great if not pricey unless you get it from the internet, in which case you'd be better off getting sperate items. If you do get it then I can say that it is easy to use and comes with a handy tin for the clay.

Bilt Hamber Autoclay is the best value for money, IMHO - about £10 for a bar from Ebay, or Elite Car Care - and only needs water as lube, as said.

Yup cheers, that is what I will buy!

Yes, another recommendation for the Bilt Hamber Autoclay.

I bought mine direct:

and as said, you can use water as a lubricant just fine. The bar is also huge (200g) relative to what others offer
