Fabia or Octavia?

Featured Replies

Hello all

I've never had a Skoda but have always liked them after being mightly impressed by the 130 (i think) Coupe's in the 1974 RAC Rally. They were the only thing noiser (if not faster) than the Lancier Stratos's which is pretty important to a 12 year old.

Anyway to the present I'm now in a quandre! picture this

man reads test on Fabia vRS,

man is impressed,

man goes to dealer to look at said vehicle,

man finds out that Octavia vRS (which he has always liked but never been able to afford) is significantly reduced in price

man can't decide???

Does man need the extra space that the Octy provides?

Does the man do sufficient mileage to need the improved economy of the furby?

Octavia Vrs but i would say that. And you'll be watching the fuel gauge move at a rate of knots too.whereas the fabia goes on for miles, tough choice:D .

Space isn't an issue, although it would be usefull, economy could be, what mpg will Octy do?

Octy 25-35, Furby 45-55 First figure thrashing/ town, second figure restrained/ on a run.

My guesstimate!?

Both lovely cars, but the Furby is more modern in feel, and lighter to drive, while the Octavia is spacious and handsome if not impressively well proportioned. I always like looking at any Octy, but the Fabia is a hoot to drive anytime/ any place etc...

And uses a ****load less fuel, which means you can afford to have more fun!

I am leaning towards the Fabia.

Lighter to drive?

Surely you jest, a well loaded (with options) Fabia vRS weighs nearly as much as an Octy does.

Ask the Fabia owners who attended the NE run a week or 2 ago about how "heavy" an Octy RS is when chucked around a bit. I think you'll find they were pleasantly surprised ;)

It's a simple choice.

Space & Comfort. Octavia.

Economy & Running costs. Fabia.

Geoff, I don't want to start a war on which is better ;) but I'd say "comfort" isn't necessarily a victory taken by the octy. Lots of people who've driven / sat in both say the furby vrs seats are more supportive and in general more comfortable.

If you're often carrying rear passengers though and you're a long-legged driver, there's deffo more space in the octy, and you have that heeyuuuuuge boot too :D

In terms of performance and fun-factor, I guess it depends on what type of roads you drive.

Recently, thanks to a couple of Briskodians, I've discovered a "back route" to work, involving twisty country lanes. The torque of the pd lump is just awesome and at times, I reckon the car's quick enough and certainly doesn't need a remap.

If however, I end up on dual carriageways with long sweeping bends and straights, I'd deffo rather have the fun / thrill / induction roar of the 1.8T

JMTPW :)

Lighter to drive?

.

The Fabia certainly feels lighter to drive. The electro-hydraulic power steering is lighter and faster and the gearbox and clutch have a lighter action.

The Fabia does feel a more modern car than the old shape Octavia IMO.

The Fabia can get tiresome (not boring) on long drives, in my opinion having driven both the Octy is a far better car for crunching those motorway miles.

Xav, not interested in a war either, but the myth of the Furby being king of the twisties is just that IMHO...a myth.

It has neither the suspension nor brakes as standard to claim that title.

Uprate both and you may have a point, but in standard form it's way below par.

The Octavia is indeed more grown up and handles better than the Fabia and is the one I choose for long trips. The Fabia feels lighter, more modern and easier to drive on shorter trips.

The Fabia has similar interior space for 4 adults, the Octavia has a little more width for a 5th adult and a massive boot.

Which one if we are talking vRS's, well the Octavia if you need boot space and if you don't it's all down to running costs IMO.

Having owned an Octy (not vrs) , and having 2 grown kids, they found that the rear legroom the Furby is surprisingly better that the Octy.

But the boot space in the Octy is enourmous

i agree with Dr z in post 2

But its bound to, it is more modern.

Compare the A5 Octavia (new shape) to the Fabia, Octavia wins no problems.
