If you're getting a new car in March you may get away with it

Apparently there are still loads of ANPR cameras (Average speed, Congestion Charge etc) that won't be updated in time to understand the new "aa10 aaa" registration plates emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

If they understand the old X999 XXX format there's no reason why they'd not understand the XX10 XXX and XX60 XXX plates - after all they understand a 1 in the fourth position - why not the 3rd? :)

They also understand fully personalised plates.

 funny if this would actually happen

All I can add is that this information came directly from a senior manager at the company that supplies most of the ANPR systems...

Urban Myth.

The ANPR system can read individual numbers and letters commonly displayed on UK license plates, it doesn't mater what order they're in. The combination of numbers and letters are then automatically checked on the police national computer, which is linked to the DVLA, and also the Insurance database. If your car is unregistered, then it won't recognise the number, if it is, it will. Simples.

It'll even recognise letters in street signs, posters, and other advertisements.

Like mentioned above, ANPR should have no issues with the new style number plates.

Although if it did have issues that would be a major mess up!
