Tyre Pressure Monitor light on

Featured Replies

My Tyre Pressure Monitor light came on while driving back from Bedford. A few seconds before a warning came up on the Maxidot saying 'Check Tyres'.

Stopped straigtaway and checked pressures with a guage and all OK and within 1psi of each other.

Early this morning about 50 miles earlier, I went over a small but deep pothole and the car crashed into it very hard indeed. I stopped but could not see any visible damage and no flat tyre.

The steering wheel needs to be 1 to 2 degrees turned clockwise to maintain a straight line, it does not pull left or right. The problem is I can not remember if the slight turn to clockwise on the wheel has been there since new and I have not noticed it.

It does say in the manual that the TPM light can come on if a tyre is damaged, I've inspected the tyre and wheel very closely on the outside and inside of the tyre and wheel and can see no damage.

I have reset the TPM and driven 10 miles and it has not come back on.

Anyone got any comments or observations or am I worrying needlessly.

It's not impossible for a deep pothole to shock a trackrod, but if you really do only have 2deg of steering lock on that you didn't before, your track alignment will only have moved about 4 minutes of arc, so will still be in spec unless it was right on the limit before.

If you've got a manual tyre pressure check that says all 4 are correct, I'd say the TOM had a false positive warning.

Thanks for that, as a precaution I think I will get the tracking checked next week. I do not want to find in 5000 miles that the tyres are scrubbed on one side or some extreme wear pattern has developed.
