Lpg Vrs

Featured Replies

Just curious if anyone has dared to add LPG to a vRS. If so, can you give me some info.

I know it sounds a bit bonkers, but I do 110 miles a day at a "steady 70mph, officer", and I'm just curious about the possibility. I'm not worried about the loss of absolute power, just any impact it might have on the internals of the engine/turbo etc

Failing that who are the best people/company to talk toabout conversions.

I would be very interested to know if you could run a turbo engine on lpg as well.

I thought about this way back when I first got my RS but was laughed off the Vortex at the time. Negative vibes from Skoda and a unavailability of a grant to convert made me forget the idea pretty sharpish.

One of the guys over on Cupranet had this on his Leon 20VT. He ran it for quite a few miles, but did have one or two problems. I think he posted as Mosser if that's any use. Why not register over there and PM him for advice / suggestions.

I looked at getting a LPG 4x4 Turbo for Wendy before we bought the L&K. Yes it can be done but Skoda basically said they would not want to know about any warrantie issues that were in any way connnected to anything that had been touched during the conversion. Seperate warranties are available from some of the conversion companies but as the car is needed every day we decided to go Diesel as we did not want to be in the situation of waiting for any repairs whilst the two parties argued as to whoose fault it was or blamed us for using dirty gas.

Its a shame really as there would appear to be many LPG Skuds, VW's & Audi's in Europe. Still good old

Skoda UK, Super cautious & customer unfriendly as usual !!!!

If you do go LPG make sure you get a multi point injection system

I would also add, If you just happen to have LPG heating at home or happen to fly Hot Air Balloons its the same fuel, only free of road fuel duty if you get my drift, also those 110 pound red bottles buiders use are the same but of course for site use only. If you should "in an emergency" need to source fuel this way make sure you get an in line filter on the refuelling line as some tanks contail some crap at the bottom, these are available from your local Hot Air Balloon manufacturer (if none local try Cameron Balloons in Bristol) Also turn the tank upside down as the gas bubble will push the liquid propane out quicker.

On a safety note LPG is heavier than air so any leaking fuel tends to spread close to the ground & has been known to be ignited by static so always refuel in an open area NEVER IN THE GARAGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
