Help with handling on my Fabia vRS PLEASE

Featured Replies

Hi there can some one please help me with some good advise about what mods 2 make with my fabia vrs to make her stick without spending silly money.

All I have done to my fabia is change the stop bushes 2 the solid ibiza ones, other then that the car is standard bt I would like 2 get rid of the understeer that it produces. I have recantly scared the living crap out of myself with a TOOO FASSST lift of oversteer experiance recantly. I thank god I missed the lamp post and caused no harm to the car. Thus have been looking at loads of your write ups about arb's and springs.

What I was going 2 do 2 it is put a jabba arb on it BUT looking at what most have written it seem that it is a must that it is also fitted with better springs IS THIS TRUE and will with either or both item fitted cause lift of oversteer to be easy to provoke and hard to control.

Please help!

options are plentiful depending on funds..

Very easy to get rid of the understeer and lift off oversteer. Drive properly for the road conditions and other road users.

putting Eibach 25mm lowering springs and a RARB on will make a big difference, that is what i've been running for nearly 5 years, but you will have to learn to be more circumspect with your spend in corners, with a RARB fitted there will be a greater tendancy for the back to let go if you lift off mid corner, although it will be easier to control than a car without a RARB

I think you may be expecting too much. Unless you are unusually skilled and gentle in your inputs on the steering, brakes and throttle you will find yourself in difficulty behind the wheel. Professional racing drivers are paid more than most because they can feel what the car is doing and control teh car accordingly. I would seriously suggest that you take a short course at a performance driving school rather than try and bolt on something to a car that is widely known to be a two-trick pony (decent in-gear accelleration and good fuel economy).

At the risk of appearing rude - if you're a poor driver (ambition>skill) you'll always scare yourself to death in a car no matter what it is.

Slow in, fast out of bends is always the way in a powerful FWD car.

Yeah slow in fast out is your cheapest way of sorting the understeer problem out.

I have spent slot of money on. Suspension and roll bars and have found that the understeer never really leaves just gets easier to control. If you invest in a good set of rubber will transform your car cheaper thAn any other modification. Imoa

good luck and drive safe

MMmmm... kitty taste good! Nom nom nom! :D

there are loads of different ways to make the car handle better, like already said it all depends on your budget.

Firstly start on tyres - thats whats between your car and the road so a decent tyre is important in my opinion. (opinions on best tyres will vary though)

Suspension - The lower your car and stiffer your car is the less roll you will get which again will help the handling, but will make it more of a "crashy" ride.

there are loads and loads, but even these mods wont stop understeer if the car is going to fast.

The two above are personally what i think could help improve it, the tyres being the first that i would look at.

Ive got coilovers on mine with front strutbrace and RARB and it handles pretty well tbh but as said tyres are a massive part in the handling.

Also you must have been going fookin fast to get rearly bad lift off oversteer on standard setup? i could hardly do it on mine standard lol but if your driving is like that maybe a RARB is not for you because they do make a big difference to handling but if not careful increase lift off oversteer :)

I found the standard setup to somewhat lurch mid-corner if you went from trailing throttle or worse, braking, to a bit of power. Suspension didn't really seem to know its arse from its elbow. Was also atrocious under braking with a large dive/forward pitch. Eibachs have transformed the car. They also helped avoid spinning up the inside wheel on T junctions, RH turns or corners. A RARB helps even more in this respect.

Cheapest option would be 25mm lower springs with a RARB. Though ultimately you need better dampers too.

could fit a front strutbrace and rarb and that would make it corner alot better

Bluntly, learn to drive within the limits of your car and ability.

Improvements to you ability should last for life whereas "improvements" to your car probably won't. On that basis may be best to go for the first option.

cupra parts are a big fave for example you can make your car stand out with a cupra spliter and im prety sure you can change the suspension to it aswell, check out the seat parts thread at top of fabia section

Eibach springs, Bigger brakes, Brake late, slow in fast out. Jobs a gooden.
