Vrs 2.0 T Cambelt change

Featured Replies

Had a quote for my cambelt (car is 4 in March and will have done 90k) so I think it's due.

£361.71all in inc parts labour & vat from a franchise.

Hope to find it cheaper. Do you think there is any chance? Doesn't have to be franchise but needs to be good reliable dealer.

Thanks

Not sure on cost, but make sure you take it somewhere that knows the car - i.e. a main dealer, or VAG specialist. Someone may know one round your area.

I took my old Focus for a timing belt change at a local garage and they buggered it up. To cut a long story short, it needed a full engine rebuild (which, thankfully, they paid a local engine specialist to do!) but it was never ever quite the same again... after months of to-ing and fro-ing with niggles, I just gave up and part ex'd it.

Thanks will give them a go.

When getting quotes check if the water pump is included (it's worth doing at the same time as the labour charge to do it afterwards is steep) and if they're using the plastic or metal impeller version. Also just in case you do have extended warranty remember to insist on oem spec parts so it's like for like. Last time I was in my local VW dealership i'm sure I saw a cam-belt change promotion on...

Thanks. I will ask.

Having shopped around in our area (franchised, none franchised & specialist) I've just paid £344 on Friday, at our main dealers. But this did include the water pump, and a new can belt tensioner (better safe than sorry!) and all new bolts. So very pleased, as I think retail for the tensioner alone would have been about £80.

As a guide, retail for the kit was £117.61+ vat and the water pump was £31.68+vat. These were from an Audi dealer so expect skoda to be cheaper.

I got the parts from Audi cause my bro works there so there was a discount taken off the above parts.

Total for pump and kit inc tentioner + fitting by local indy = £255. :)

thats pretty cheap to be fair
