What is ASR

Featured Replies

My car has ASR. What does it do or is it supposed to do?. Noticed warning light came on a week ago when driving up a muddy track. Should it have?

its your traction control light it comes on when its being used. when 1 wheel spins fatser than the other the ecu reads this and cuts all power due to thinking you have lost it ..

the system is crap and dangerous and is always turned off in my car

for instant if you pull away at a roundabout hard and you do get a bit of spin it closes the throttle and you have no power leaving you stranded in the middle of the road

shocking system imho

Traction control and the light will flash when your wheels loose traction.

Designed by idiots, for idiots.......

Is it even worse in the ice and snow then?

Yes, much worse. Only really of use on dry roads with plenty of grip. It doesn't actually cut power, but reduces power until the system sees all the ABS sensors sending the correct values of expected wheel speeds. Like any automated safety system, it will never be as good as a good driver.

If you do switch it off, be aware if you get power understeer and lift off too quick, the car will snap into lift off over steer. You can get this with ASR on, but it's not quite so brutal, as the ASR feathers the power down.

ASR is actually Anti Slip Regulation.

I'll have to have a play when I the car then

Cheers for the info
