Rear parking aid - how does it work?

Featured Replies

HI,

Can those SMOC members with rear parking sensor AND tow bar help me out?

I've just picked up my 2.0 SE 140 with removable tow bar.

When I select reverse gear there is a beep for about 3 seconds and then nothing, no display or other beeps as I reverse.

This is the same if the tow bar is fitted or not.

Not sure if this is a fault ( err-ing on that it is a fault at the moment as per page 114 of manual states a beep of 3 secs is a fault) or perhaps I am not doing something correctly.

Advise/tips from those who have a similar configuration much appreicated ...

Thanks

Graham

A continuous beep indicates a fault.

Is the tow bar a proper Skoda one? Who installed it?

The beep when you select reverse is normal, its the sensors saying that they are now working. As you reverse closer to an object, then you should start hearing beeps from around 18 inches or so. Depending on your radio. you may or may not get a display of whats happening.

Hi Graham,

very pleased to hear you have your Snow-Monster.

When you start to get close to an object the beeps should start and then gradually increase the closer you get. should also get a 'picture' of the back of the car on the radio screen. Once the beeps start there should be some count down bars appearing on the screen in front of the active sensor/s. If you have the radio on then the volume should be automatically turned down on selecting reverse.

TP

If everything works the way it is supposed to, you should hear one beep when engaging reverse gear. Depending on what kind of radio your Yeti is equipped with, an image of the car will apear on the radio display. A long beep like you describe indicates a fault in the system.. Could be a coding issue, or a forgotten connector on one on the ultra sonic sensors if the tow hook has been fitted by your dealer. Contact your dealer, and tell them to sort things out..

Thanks all for the advice,

Just to confirm - I don't get any display - and neither does the beeping change - other than the 3 second beep at the start - then silence as I revers close to buildings!!

It was installed at/by the Dealer - so they'l be getting a call tomorrow.

Most likely a missing connection or such like I guess - but as the delaer is in London and I'm in Aberdeen ( will be tomorrow) it's going to be a local ( 50 mile)

job to sort it out I guess.

Still these things happen.

Hi Graham,

is there a dealer close to your current locat; might be able to pop in for a 'quick fix' if it has gone slightly south. Just a thought.

Hi TP,

not a bad idea - but I need to be away smartish - bit of a blizzard forecast for the North East later tomorrow - so I'll push on and let the dealer sort it out on Monday.

Thanks

Can anyone tell me if Skoda's do the optical parking like Tiguans have as an option?

With the Sat Nav fitted, you should have a visual display as well as an audio one.

The SE with the Bolero radio fitted has a screen for reversing. It shows an image that is supposed to represent the rear of the car and, when you approach an object, a set of lines representing the approaching wall or post. I find it quite useful EXCEPT I can't watch it and watch behind at the same time!! I dont think there is any Skoda supplied video units but there are a number of "off the shelf" units available.

Someone has fitted the camera unit to their Octavia Mk2 and put up a rough install guide.

Hi,

Further to the "rear parking aid sensors don't work since towbar fitted" saga.... aka - most likley the sensors have not be re-connected....

I have the option of a 100 mile round trip - to my "nearest" Skoda dealer in Aberdeen to do a quick check that the towbar electrics/sensors are plugged in correctly - or I was wondering perhaps I could take a look myself?

I can use a torx driver like anyone else.

So far I have understood the towbar electrics and sensor connectors are somewhere behind a panel in the boot area.

Anyone no where this connector might be in the boot area - how do I get to it? - how easy it would be for me to have a quick peek to check the fitter did actually put the sensor connectors back??

Thanks in advance

Have you had a squint up inside the towbar bumper panel? I haven't got my towbar fitted yet (it's on order with Allams) but have the hitch access panel as it was part of the factory towbar prep and had a look up inside when I was bored. Might show something.

Hi,

yep tried that - and the cables disppear through the body work as far as I can make out. I was told, by the guy who put the towbar on ( and may have forggotten to connect it up) that there is a panel in the boot area that provides access

to the cable/connectors.... makes sense I guess else the cable would have to run to the front of the car. But he wasn't able to describe where this panel is.

Thanks

I fixed the rear parking aid sensors with a stroke of good fortune today and with thanks to everyone who offered help/advice/tips which pointed me in the right direction.

Coupled with this information I took a a look around the boot/bumper area to see if I could find a loose connection.

After some looking and poking about - I put my hand up behind the bumper to where to offside sensor was, I could feel the sensor but no connector.

Still working blind I groped about with my fingers and could feel a cable with a spur and connector. I managed to mate the connector to the sensor and hey presto full service has been resumed - I now have rear parking sensors!

Graham

Excellent - well spotted, Grahgam. You now be the SMOC rear parking sensor expert! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Excellent groping skills Graham :giggle: very well done. Better than wasting time at the dealers if it is a self fix
