Rubbing/Squeeling Noise

Featured Replies

Was using the wifes Fabia on Saturday and after a few hours of driving it developed a loud rubbing/squeeking type noise from the front left hand side. As you accellerated the noise got faster and as you slowed the noise did too, but as you turned the steering wheel the noise began to fade away. Pulled over and checked the brakes but was no burning smell and nothing felt overly hot and couldn't see anything visible. Drove off again to get home with it still squeeling away then all of a sudden it just stopped and was back to normal as quickly as the noise had started. Any ideas what caused this and if it'll come back again?

Cheers in advance

Auxiliary drive belt? It drives the air con, but there's an over-ride below 4 degC, so maybe the temperature got high enough for the compressor to re-engage...???

Her car doesn't have air con mate, its only a 1.2 HTP Silverline

Small stone between brake back plate and disc, or just crud on the disc from road salt. Also check clearance between brake splash plate and disc, they bend easily and can contact the disc.

Thought it might be that too, my old Mk4 Golf was squeeling and turned out to be the plate had moved, but was strange how it just stopped suddenly, unless like you say could have been a stone or crud thats got stuck. Other thing that crossed my mind was fan belt adjuster?
