Steering Mounted Controls

Featured Replies

Whats the best discreet way & most professional way (to make it look pretty much standard) to retro-fit steering mounted controls? I use to have an infra red one on my Escort but it didnt have good reception, and rarely worked. My mondeo had them on the steering column and it was great. It's probably the only thing that irritates me about my Furby vRS, any pics would be nice.

Cheers, Chris.

I'm bumping this thread as I'm about to get myself a new HU for my Fabia (non vRS) and also like the thought of a steering-mounted remote.

The unit I'm currently leaning towards is the JVC KD-G612 which according to JVC is steering-remote enabled, but they do not sell one of those (TTBOMK). Or do they mean the HU can be connected to factory-mounted steering remotes?

I know Pioneer has a remote which you clip on the inside of the actual steering wheel instead of on the side of the "axle" (found a gap in my English vacabulary here :) ) which looks dreadful. ( http://www.pioneer.se/se/product_detail.jsp?product_id=3370&taxonomy_id=25-38 )

I have the removal remote for my Pioneer HU. Has a mounting which straps to the steering wheel instead of the steering column. Looks alright really, doesn't look as bad as link above. I'll take pic tonight.

Thanks. Looking forward to it (and adding "steering column" to the vocabulary :) ).

Pics as promised:-

I had one of those remotes in my Senator. It wasn't very successful for some reason.

This one works a treat.

It's actually about 5 years old from when I bought another HU. Operates my brand new MP3 Player & still on original battery!

Looks excellent Jon TDI, tend of always operated the steering mounted controls from the left, but I have a feeling if I positioned that on the left hand side of the steering column it would look like the web site above's picture :(

I hate it when it rotates with the wheel though - I preferred the ones that you get in the older Renaults, it's just an extra stick on the steering console with volume up/down, source, and another selection up/down thingy on it, plus it had a mute on one of the cars I had. Very useful, simple and out of my way.

Things hanging of the steering wheel block the view to the clocks.

It doesn't look that bad though imho - colours are in keeping with what's surrounding it so why not :D
