Mk1 Octavia on a 58 plate? What's the crack?

Featured Replies

On the M25 / M1 tonight I was driving alongside a black Octavia mk1 with blacked out windows, and it had a 58 reg plate. How does that work then? This isn't the first time I've seen this either - I saw a white one a few months back on a 58 reg.

Surely there weren't mk1 octavia's registered in that year so does this mean that the cars are dodgy, but the owners are too stupid to realise they weren't made on a 58?

Or am I the one that is being stupid and missing a trick here?

Still available, in classic only trim, for use as taxi's

They will be ones that were built and not sold until then. There are a few taxis up here that are 08 plate.

We have 4, 09 ones on the rank

Oh okay, didn't realise - I thought that by 2008 there would be none left as the Octy mk2 had been out for a couple of years by then.....well, you learn something new every day....

Aren't they still making them?

Aren't they still making them?

As far as I know Babs.....

 Yes they are still making them but not with the SDi engines, you can get the 90 110 or the 130 BHP TDis

If you want one the taxi centre in Glasgow will sell you one you dont need to be a taxi driver

A 130 would be cool, but sod the punters jumping out in front

of you shouting TAXI.....

they also made the vRX which was a std car with the vRS spoiler and a few otehr bits and std ride hight. looked SH!T to me and when I went in to Skoda in Huddersfield and asked if anyone was daft enough to buy them he said yes they were selling better than the MK2 was lol.

I couldn't believe it. that was early 09 so perfect for the 58 plate

still on sale here in ireleand known as the octavia tour, and you dont need to be a taxi driver

also known as the Skoda Laura in India

I could be wrong, but I thought it was the Mk2 that was called the Laura in some markets, to differentiate it from the Mk1 which (as we've established) is still being built and sold as the Octavia.

OK, just done a search, and found this

http://auto.indiamart.com/cars/skoda-cars.html

Edit :- check out some of the other makes available -- the Hindustan page seems to offer a brand new Vauxhall Victor!

The Grand model looks really good -- it's advertised as having a rear stop lamp.................

Just the mention of any rear light is quite a novelty in India - I was out in Delhi last September and "lightless" cars just appear out of the gloom in front of you, and if you're really lucky, they will be on the correct side of the road, heading in the right direction!
