Rear scrren delaminating

Featured Replies

Hi, my car went into the dealers for a few jobs yesterday, I brought their attention to the bottom drivers side corner of the rear screen, as it was white. I've had 3 octys over the years and the last 2 were MK II's, both had to have their front screens replaced under warranty due to delamination. So it seems the rear screen also suffers the same fate. Luckily they are replacing it for me under warranty along with N/S mirror indicator/puddle light unit (indicator failed), handbrake console trim (handbrake showing resistance when released), rear washer jet (keeps blocking) and engine cover (as one peg is rattling loudly at idle). Also, as but of a surprise, I told them I was concerned of the beam pattern on the N/S xenon headlamp, it blinds other drivers when I'm over taking. They told me that the pattern is split and causing a ghost effect. The headlamp is being replaced under warranty too.

Hi cj_uk,

I am confused - the rear screen would normally be made of toughened glass - how can this be de-laminating?

John.

Hi John, sorry for the confusion, the dealer lead me to believe that this was the case but I now think its the bonding coming away as they said they''ll have to order in a bonding kit for the new glass.Sorry for the mistake

I had the rear screen replaced on my '07 vRS as the edge of it was de-laminating; visible on the black surround as it was going a milky white colour.

It does depend on the extent of the delamination though. The front screen also had some minor delamination under the wipers, but the dealer said that this was not bad enough for the screen to be changed. To be honest you could not notice the front screen as it was largely hidden anyway.

I just left the car with them for the day, as the screen is bonded in place and needs to set.

I did test drive a FL vRS whilst mine was being repaired and ending up buying one though!

I had a similar problem with the black surround going white on the lower corners of the rear screen on my 07 Elegance. My front screen had a similar problem with the lower edge of the windscreen. Both were replaced under warranty in the day. This appears to be a common problem......

I'm going to keep a eye on this. It will be interesting to see how the screen survive the Australian sun. My car is only about 6 weeks old but it's parked in full sun all day at work and already it's had several days over 40C and probably 10-12 over 30C.
