Any regrets due to upcoming 1.4 TSI?

Edited by milovac

What new 1.4?

Link or it didn't happen.

Edited by Babs

Me not paying attention again

1.4 TSi would be nice but as mine is a compnay car I didn't have any choice over when I ordered so it's a bit irrelevant really.

Maybe in three years time I'll get a 1.4!

Any regrets due to upcoming 1.4 TSI?

Hi no regrets the 1.2tsi is perfect for me i would not have gone for the 1.4 tsi even if was a option at the time the 1.2tsi power and economy and £125 road tax all add up to a perfect package. I will try the 1.2tsi with the 7 speed DSG when they get one at the local dealers because i think that could be a good package for my next car in 4or 5 years time they will also be well tested by then

I probably wouldn't have considered the 1.2 if the 1.4 had been available, and that would have been my loss.

The 1.2 is a brilliant engine and I think demonstrates the zeitgeist perfectly.

I do wonder if that is why the 1.4 wasn't available at launch. Get people buying and talking about the 1.2 so people are aware how good it is.

AutoExpress test the Yeti in this weeks edition. Generally very good 4* review of the 1.2 manual Elegance. Only criticism was that although the 1.2 engine was fine for urban use they felt the car was underpowered at motorway speeds.

Exactly what I feared!!

It might not be true. They're journalists, they need something to complain about otherwise it just looks like a "fluff piece" :)

Hi had my 1.2tsi on the motorway at the weekend power was not a problem at all it would accelerate at 70 in 6 to overtake very well so don't believe all you read

no regrets here. I hope you will not have regrets waiting ..and waiting for the 1.4. :dull: The 1.2 is now out my door and I enjoy it every day...

If you are going to quote something at least copy the link.

"While the official 0-60mph sprint time of 11.8 seconds sounds sluggish, in practice the unit has plenty of go around town. The only time it feels underpowered is at motorway speeds, when the 105bhp engine struggles a little. The small-capacity powerplant is economical, though. Skoda claims 44.8mpg, plus 149g/km CO2 emissions"

Personally i think your over reacting at the statement "when the 105bhp engine struggles a little". And what has annoyed me is then you've come on this forum and misquoted them by saying "they felt the car was underpowered at motorway speeds" totally omitting the most important words 'a little'. :wall:

Why don't you form an opinion from driving one, rather than taking a journo's word literally?

Totally agree with this statement. The same article also says "The elevated ride height also gives the driver a commanding position, and a good view of the road. But it can let the Yeti down in corners, where there is some body roll."

Having now driven four Yeti's I dont think thats a fair comment and Im comparing it to others in class that Ive also driven - Quashqai for example. (Im assuming the 1.2 has the same anti roll bar setup as the Yeti's ive driven anyway!)

Take the reviews with a pinch of salt, although having said that - most reviews agree the Yeti is excellent so maybe there is some weight in them after all :p

Trouble is, until you can actually drive, buy and be aware of all the facts and figures, the 1.4TSi Yeti is impossible to fully assess. Then and only then can you compare it to the 1.2. All I can say is if it is anything like the Octavia, then it will be well worth the wait.

The only time it feels underpowered is at motorway speeds, when the 105bhp engine struggles a little.

I agree with FocusZtec that the above is not a fair comment. I don't know why they write such things, but it's not like that. After 700 km with my 1.2 I can tell that there is plenty of power on the motorway, at 130 or 140km/h and 6th in the gear box, you also have acceleration with the 6th. I was realy surprised to testify this on my first trip with the Yeti, transporting my family and 3 womens' suitcases... My previous car, a 2000cc petrol X-trail had LESS power on the motorway. I couldn't believe it myself. It's a parodox but it is true.

My advice : don't trust the journalists. They have their own agenda. Get a Yeti for test drive and go straight to the motorway..

But what Expatman actually said (if you take the entire sentence) was:

Only criticism was that although the 1.2 engine was fine for urban use they felt the car was underpowered at motorway speeds.

Where the review says:

The only time it feels underpowered is at motorway speeds, when the 105bhp engine struggles a little.

I don't think that's a grotesque misquotation as long as you include everything Expatman said.

Whether Autowotsit are correct is, of course, another matter. ;)

According to my dealer, 1.4TSI NOT coming to the UK. Started a new post for comments on this.

Auto Express is a car magazine for children. Other than some occasionally useful car accessory product reviews it is a demonstration in tabloidesque lightweight inconsistent sensationalist drivel. I had a subscription once but found that I could learn more about cars by sitting in Sainsburys car park than reading that toilet paper. Positive review though emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Again I think that is lazy journalism. Probably someone sitting in the office and thinking "Hmmmm, it is tall and has a lot of suspension travel therefore it handles badly but rides well"

Whatcar are often guilty of the same sort of thing.

Yes, What Car? are also bad but not to the same degree. Their opinions and reviews are horrendously inconsistent. The data section is also littered with countless errors.

That reminds me of the time I got a lift in a Shogun Sport. Worst ride of any car I've ever been in.

WhatCar are magnificently inconsistent - the Octy CR VRS gets 3 stars for not being fast enough or having curtain airbags and being a bit expensive. Whereas the Golf GTD gets 5 stars despite not being fun to drive and being a bit expensive.

While Whatcar does tend to do quite thorough reviews, as a magazine I think it has something of a "yuppie" bias. One month quite recently it produced a "new cars for 2010" type supplement, whch if I recall correctly reviewed (nearly all very positively) no fewer than ten VWs. The number was bolstered by reviews of new "versions" such as Blueline of existing models which i felt hardly qualified as new cars.

I've noticed that more expensive versions of Skoda models often get lower ratings than cheaper ones, as if they' are stuck on Skoda being a budget brand
