Brake kit on eBay

Featured Replies

There's a eBay "shop" selling Mintex Brake Box kits, i.e. set of front discs and pads, for £52 + £10p+p. I won't mention the name of the seller for various reasons.

Ordinary pattern bits from another motor factor in my area were a LOT more expensive.

Mintex are a good brand, I thought? This must seem too good to be true? I am not convinced that buying brake parts via eBay is a good idea.

Any views?

Martin

I can try match it if you'd like..

That way you're not buying from ebay...

Hi Kev,

That's great. Will PM you some details.

There's no problem at all with a Mintex Brake box, and not all e-bay sellers are crooks. Some just don't have overheads like your local Motor Factors has, e.g. shop rent, staff wages, heating, leccy etc., etc.

I bought a Mintex brake box set from e-bay and they've been fine.

Skoda parts are a rip off, but you can get exactly the same parts, from the same manufacturer, in a different box without Skoda branding, and it costs about the same as Mintex kit, so either your Motor Factor shop is a rip off or they were Skoda 'branded' parts.

The local Skoda dealer wanted about £170 for front discs and pads and rear pads!!

Local motor factors wanted £100. VWSpares wanted about £90 for the same.

£52 just seems too cheap for them to really be Mintex pads. Plus I've seen some of the comments made on his own site about people who left negative feedback. It's not someone I want to deal with.

I've just had front & rear mintex discs & pads from ebay for £127 delivered.

Fitted this morning, bedded in with a few 50 mph-10mph medium to firm braking episodes followed by a gentle 5 mile cool down drive, bobs your uncle!

FAO Jabba, shame you never mentioned the brake deal when I had my £800 service & MOT last month with you, I did mention when I booked it in that the brakes were buggered & expected that they would need replacing, but you returned the car along with the advisory that the discs were scored & would need replacing shortly! I'd have happily had you do the brakes at the same time.

Never did find the locking nut adapter either.

Apologies for your less than satisfactory service as it seems from us.

Can you PM me your name and date of the service and i'll take a look through our records for a reason why we didn't do the brakes for you.

Thanks

Kevin
