Battery draining at 12v

Featured Replies

Hi

I really could do with some help

I have a skoda octavia 19 tdi 2000 model the problem is my battery drains all the time at 12v I have removed fuses one buy one and relays while testing battery with a meter and it still shows it draining so I cannot pin point what is causing the problem, Under the bonnet there is a box ontop of the battery where some power wires are I found that the main thick red wire seems to be where the draining is comming from, but this appears to be the main power wire so I cannot isolate the problem freom there. I have had new batterys so I no its not a battery fault, also the car has been connect to a computer diagnostic machine but did not show any errors which is strange. So I have to disconect the battery every time I am not using the car. which is not ideal because this resset everything. Since this has happened the abs brake light now stays on but the abs seems to work but I have been told that low battery can trigger this light to come on. I have also taking the connectionss off the alternator but did not make any diffirence. I have also changed the starter motor with no luck so can any one help I really need some help.

thank you

If u stick a voltmeter across your battery it will always read 12v no matter what fuses, relays you remove. You really need an ammeter to find what is drawing current and draining your battery.

What I did was disconnect the battery earth terminal and did the test IE meter on earth lead and on the earth of the battery also when I reconnect the battery there is a really big spark spark more than it should be.

the way I did the test was what I was told is the way to do it by garage. but thanks for your help.

If you do not have a ammeter you could connect a lamp where you are connecting your meter,if the lamp is lit something is drawing current. Remember that the ecu, clock etc will always draw some current, and remember to shut all doors and boot as interior lamp being on will make lamp light.Would be better with an ammeter though as you could see what current is being drawn and when it drops when fuses are removed.
