Can`t start car after Bolero install.! VRS TDI

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a Bolero head unit for my 07 Octavia VRS TDI. Original I had the stream head unit.

But only 2 days after I installed the Bolero unit, I couldn’t start my car because the battery was flat.

I tried to recharge the battery, but then after one more day I once again couldn’t start the car. After that I have disconnected the Bolero head unit and the car starts perfectly.

So my question is:

Does the Bolero use so much more power than the stream unit that I can`t use it in my car or is it an connection fail so that the unit is draining the battery for power even when the car is turned off?

not sure if this is relevent, but the new FL does not have a switchable live.

Probably something similar to the problem MFD3 owners were getting when they flashed their units with the latest firmware and had battery drain issues. The old CAN gateways on the cars don't take kindly to the updated firmware.

Do you know how they have solved this issue?

Updating the CAN gateway usually solves the problem, they are approx £120+VAT. I'm not sure where you are based, but we can fit one for you.

I live in Sweden. So that may be a problem :smirk:

Its very easy to change it yourself though.

I’m bringing up this tread again as I’m finally have got the time to do something about it.

I forgot that in addition to the battery drain, the display on the bolero unit is noticeably darker than in a new car with bolero installed. ( I have checked with a new VRS) Will the can gateway upgrade solve this problem as well?

Could be the setting on the Bolero itself, it has five levels of illumination....

Would be great if that was the solution, but sadly it is on the brightest setting :(
