Does my 2002 1.8t 4x4 have a ko3 or a ko3s?

Featured Replies

Hi peeps,

I am sure I read that from some time in 2002 all 1.8t's had the ko3s. I guess it depends when in 2002! I am thinking of a remap so do the different turbos need different maps. Any thoughts?

its a K03s so it remaps the same as the vrs but has a closer ratio gearbox so top end is a bit lower HTH

I thought it was only the pre-2000 Octys with 1.8T engines that had the K03, i.e. back when they were LX, SLXi etc. trim levels instead of VRS, L&K, Ambiente etc. after that they were all K03s although only the VRS had the map on it to make it 180bhp while the 4x4 turbo and FWD 1.8T's were 150bhp

2002 was the year VW introduced the K03S in the Mk4 Golf, with the 180bhp anniversary edition.

The 4X4 is usually 150BHP , so as far as I am aware it is the K03

The 180BHP in the vRS is a K03s

For the 1.8 20v T:

150 = K03

180 = K03s

210/225 = K04

didnt the 150s have smaller injectores too? and slightly diff internals? or is that change only on the k04 ones?

For the 1.8 20v T:

150 = K03

180 = K03s

210/225 = K04

But the 4x4 definately has the K03s, as a remap on a 150 with a K03 (e.g. an old W reg Mk4 Golf ) will only see 179ish bhp whereas remap a 4x4 and you get about 207bhp almost as much as a remapped VRS.

For the 1.8 20v T:

150 = K03

180 = K03s

210/225 = K04

wrong-diddly-wrong-wrong...

like I said in the first reply the 4x4 is a k03s :D the engine code is ARX and they come with large injectors, VVT (electronic), Twin Cat (al la S3 and Quattros) and a k03s which is why they remap the same as a vrs. In fact with standard exhaust they remap a teeny bit better due to the higher flow of the twin cat :D

Exactamundoly right !

out of interest are all the internals exactly the same as the 180bhp or does it have different cams etc....

gotta be a bonus going from 150bhp to 207 :rofl: poor haldex :(

Transforms the car :rofl: And the clutch if you're unlucky

Don't feel sorry for the Haldex, It copes well enough in the 225TT and the R32 Golf so a remap is not going to worry it at all :D :D :D I believe that the internals are good for up to 300BHP but a lot depends on the way the tourqe is made.

Except the 4x4 1.8t which had ko3s I know I own one 😂😂😂
