variable nozzle turbo [innotec fluid]

Featured Replies

has anyone used innotec fluid to clean the carbon out of the variable nozzle turbo, does it work or strip the turbo down [vnt] and clean out ? thanks

i havent heard of it to be honest....but i have used a chemical called mek...used in this particular rubber factory i worked in a few years ago...my father had hard deposits of caked on oil in the oil strainer off his passat and wanted to clean it up....petrol wudnt shift the deposits at all !!......and the maintenance fellow suggsted this mek solution. he said it was very volatile and all one had to do was soak it for a minute......and it came out virtually new looking. simply dissolved everything that we wanted prior to refitting it...having said that...another maintenance man had some on his hands cleaning tools, went to rub his hands dry and they caught alight....30% burns and he called it a day after that...thats how volatile it was. after that my dad never put stp oil treatment in his car again, as in his case theoil pick up pipe became blocked.....had warning sounds inside the car he cudnt hear and in the end the head siezed up shearing the timing belt of teeth!!...all because the pick up pipe got blocked.

having said all that....i would suggest the turbo be lubricated prior to fitting, as all traces of oil/carbon will be removed

And good practice is to with a hot engine allow it to idle before switching off, this allows the oil to cool a bit and reduce carbon build up in the turbo and extend it's life.

Very good practice, turbos spin at high revs and stoping the engine while a turbo is spinning fast leaves it with no oil pressure to support its bearings, the result is wear and damage to seals. Then smoke, new turbo and much reduced bank account. Philip
