new cambelt & water pump...

Featured Replies

.. and she'll be running as sweet as ever. I cannot wait. Cambelt was whipped off today, and it bore the evidence of the bearing in the water pump failing suddenly - was all tatty/marked in places where we reckon the bearings had fallen out and gone into the belt. It had also slipped a tooth as thought, hence all the fuelling and general running was nasty as sin (the pump was running ahead of the rest of the engine!) So, a new pump and cambelt, refitting, and all will be back. Time for me to do my bit and clean out the inside. ;) Pictures? No, not yet. :P

Is it a vRS you've bought?

Nope - a lovely oil burner... Came across a little hitch last night - went to change brake pads... WHERE'S THE F***ING WHEEL NUT KEY!? turned the car upside down (not literally ;)) looking for it, and ended up ringing matey who had it in his toolbox, so its in the post to me. :D Still, I'm getting more and more pleased with the car, especially now the worrying engine trouble is not that serious at all.

When's it getting Jabba'd?

What is a good price for a cambelt and water pump change on a vRS? I have been quoted £399 for the whole job by a guy who has done a lot of good work on my car (VW/Audi/Skoda specialist) - Is that too much? Got quoted over £400 by a few others a while back...Also car is a 2005 Mk I on 53k, is it definitely time to do it or shall I wait a little longer?

Cheers

This thread is 6 years old, and it's not even on the subject of vRS cambelt change prices!

Plenty of more recent and related threads about. Mine cost me about £300 at a dealer, but that was 3 years ago.

Oops, in fact DOUBLE OOPS! My bad, I'm sorry...just did a thread search and forgot to look at the date, what a dumbass! Wish I was drinkning! Cheers dude...
