Dead Radio

Featured Replies

Bought a Ripspeed 730b off ebay, worked fine for about a week, then decided to turn the volume up very high and all of a sudden it went dead - no lights, no sound, nothing.

I checked both the fuse in the car and the one in the radio, both are still intact., is there anything else I can check before I chuck it?

Have a look on the PCB tracks to see if one of them has acted like a fuse and blown a gap in the track, if it has solder some wire across the gap. cheers - Stuart B)

The fuse you checked on the radio -- was it one that looked like a normal blade fuse for a car and was located on the rear of the radio?

If so, there's one more fuse inside the radio so you'll need to open it up. Once you test it for continuity and find if its that one which has blown, your local Maplins or RS components will be able to give you a matching replacement.

Sorry if this is the one you've tested, just posting in case it helps because it's not obvious.

Yeh the one I checked was a normal blade fuse. Didn't know there was a fuse inside the radio I'll crack it open at some point and have a look inside.

Thanks for the help :)

Could you post some pics of the board? Realise it's only obvious if you've seen similar before. It's going to be some sort of removable cartridge, often transparent/white plastic shroud with a component which will unplug.

PCB tracks are the lines you can see running all around the PCB. It should be pretty obviously burnt around the area where it has occurred if it's that.

Some pics of the inside of the unit would be good, ideally including the any panels you've removed in the shot(s) too.
