False Alarms

Featured Replies

The alarm on my FL Octy has gone off 3 times without any obvious reason. The first time was a few weeks after it being delivered, the next time was 3 months later (in the early hours) and the last time was today (during the afternoon) a gap of 2 weeks.

If it happens again i'm going to take it to a dealer for a check over.

One thing I notice is that the alarm seems to sound for about 20-30seconds and then go off for about 3-4seconds, before then sounding again. It keeps doing this until I unlock the doors with the remote. Once I relock them it stays away (or at least for a few weeks/months).

Two questions:

1) if the alarm was triggered for a reason such as a lorry going past or a cat jumping on the car etc would the alarm stop itself if the reason (shock sensor etc) was no longer present?

2) How long does it take to flatten the battery (2.0 TDi elegance) if the alarm sounds continuously? I've got to leave it on an airport car park for 6 days soon and I'm worried the battery will be flat if it starts doing its thing!

My previous Octy2 had one false alarm in 4 years and this car is kept in the same place on the drive.

Cheers for any help/advice.

Hi there,

My 06 Leon 2.0TDi Sport did a similar thing where it would randomly sound for no apparent reason, i'd unlock it then lock it again and sometimes this would resolve it (or it would go off again). These false alarms happened 3 or 4 times where in the end, the dealer pulled the fuse! Something to do with a sensor/control unit in the door but was a few hundred pounds to repair! Obviously the Leon and Octavia will use similar components but when I asked my Skoda dealer about whether the same problem would occur on the Octavia, he said there had been some substantial improvements to the alarm system to prevent this.

Does the red LED in the door trim flash in a particular pattern which may indicate what caused the triggering?

Do you have the interior sensors activated? There is a button on the drivers side on the a-pillar trim.

Cheers

I didn't notice what the LED was doing - I'll try to remember to look next time.

The interior sensor is activated but if that is the cause it seems too sensitive.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

my Yeti's alarm has gone off twice; put the first one down to a breezy day, second time(few days ago) a very small moth fluttering around the roof in front of the sensors appeared to be the culprit.

Regards,

TP
