Extended Warranties

Featured Replies

I was one of those that posted on here before to say that I didn't think that they were worth it - however with less than a week to run on my Skoda warranty & a 2.0 Tfsi Vrs that has had quite a bit of warranty work, I have to admit I am getting more than a little twitchy. I am waiting for the local dealer to obtain a replacement 'dash insert' - apparently they are on back order ! I have one or two other niggles that have never been fixed...so I reckon I'll just have to live with them.

Anyway - back to the extended warranty business - I did a quick check on Which? which lists Warranty Direct, Warrantywsie & Tesco ( but they are no longer doing car warranties). I then tried to do a 'comparet the market' quote - which only seems to take me to a site called - Click4Warranty - anyone heard of or used them? Any feedback - their prices seem pretty decent for the 5* warranty - 3yrs, all in less the £450 - too good to be true? Sounds like it to me.

Warranty Direct seem expensive - but are there any other tried & tested options. I had expected Skoda to come to me to ask if I wanted to extend - I had asked the dealer to give me info/quote & they advised that I would be contacted by Skoda- but alas nothing so far !

I might yet take the chance - but would like to weight up all my options, as I am likely to keep the car for at least another year...and if I had a 3 year warranty - I'd probably keep in that long at least.

You need to haggle with Warranty Direct over the phone to get a decent price - if they haven't already started pestering you once you've done a quote.

I purchased an extended Skoda warranty from my dealer last week, it looks to cover most of the problem areas that come with my TDI. The only item excluded (other than the cat etc) which surprised me was wiring, but the dealer explained that this is only pointed out due to people having after market phone sets, stereos fitted etc. My dealer (i've been with them for years) said they never normally have any issues with claiming. Also I got a great deal, 1 year extended warranty and 1 year RAC for £290.

A friend of mine has a car sales garage & has warranties. You could have either a 1 year or lifetime of ownership. The lifetime warranty is £395 with a £2000 each & every claim limit, £250 for the 1 year with a £1000 each &every claim limit. If interested just let me know.

Spoke to the dealer again this morning & they are adamant that they don't/can't/won't sell me a warranty. Seems I will need to contact Skoda direct if I want one or go 'aftermarket' - but there doesn't appear to be much reputable choice - Warranty Direct/Wise or this Click4warranty (which I am not convinced is genuine?)

Thanks for the offer/info Tisca - but which warranty is your mate selling? I'd need a lot more info before I buy.

Turning back to maybe sticking the cost of the warranty under the sofa cushion for that rainy day.

If you plan on getting the servicing work and any warranty items that arise dealt with by Skoda, then you are probably best going direct. I purchased a 1yr extended warranty for my 2.0 T-FSI at a cost of about £300 plus the VAT. They offered me two years for about £550 plus VAT IIRC. There are no mileage limits and no claims limits on my Skoda policy and the dealer has dealt direct with the warranty company on the 1 occassion that I have had to use it (Care Car Plan policy - sold by Skoda). So I didn't have to get the claim pre-authorised or fill in any paperwork, the dealer just took care of it. Past experiences with Auto Protect have never been that simple and you end up going round the houses to try and get coverage. The Skoda policy may not be as comprehensive (wiring and cat not included) or as cheap but in the long run the hassle factor is minimal if you plan to use a main dealer in the future. I can imagine the dealer would want to sell you a warranty and then not be able to claim on it if need be - just looks shabby in front of a loyal customer and would put anyone off returning for a repeat purchase. So in my opinion they have a vested interest in selling you something that is half decent !

Contact James Rothwell at Allams Skoda, he did me a very good deal on a genuine Skoda 2 year warranty complete with Skoda Assist for the 2 years.

Allams can be contacted via the 'Site Sponsors' - Skoda Retailers thread

Highly recommended

Hi Harveys, The warranty company is "Motorcare warranties" Ltd.

Address : Motorcare house, The Gables, Commercial street, Llantwit, Major Vale opf Glamorgan CF61 1 RB.

He only uses their GILT plan which is very good & been using them for 10 years. The lifetime of ownership is the

one 9 out of 10 customers purchase due to it's excellent value with a £2000 claim limit for each & every claim

throughout the lifetime of the warranty. By the way the "GILT" policy is their top (best) one.

Thanks all

- Tisca - I googled Motorcare Warranties...not many recommendations around for them, in fact the exact opposite, but I guess you could say the same about most of the warranty companies??? Thanks for the info anyway.

- Octavia5 - I'll give Allams a shout - although I just arranged AA breakdown cover this week (thought the Skoda Assist renewal was a bit pricey) - but might still be an option.

- Peanut18 & co - sounds like the genuine Skoda item is the way to go, if I decide to take one out. Will it make any odds if I don't have this arranged by the weekend, when my warranty runs out?

I've had some missed calls on my mobile today, so I reckon it will have been Warranty Direct.

What were you quoted for Skoda Assist?

I was quoted £89 for 1 year or £149 for 2 years.

Considering it's via the RAC and includes everything including full European coverage, I felt that was a bargain.

Can't recall exactly - could have been that. I don't need European cover, just either the basic Roadside or Roadside & Recovery.which is £40-60 with the AA or much less via some of the cashback sites/deals around. I've got a very friendly local garage less than 200 yards away if I have an issue at my door.

Had Warranty Direct on the phone again - they tried yesterday too - basically they wanted £380 for 1 year non franchised or £456 for franchised cover - that's for one year BTW ! Without even trying too hard, got it down to £380 for the franchised option. I've asked them to send me the quote/info out - but feel there is more haggling to be done.

I've also contacted Allams as suggested re the Skoda option & await a reply/price. Having spent quite some time looking into the Click4Warranty option - there are reviews around - good & bad, the headline price of what appears to be very comprehensive cover including the turbo etc for less than £450 looks very attractive.

Stuffin' the cash under my mattress is also still an option !

If you qualify to join the CSMA (£15 a year) they offer a warrantly that I cannot praise highly enough. I used to have their Car Care Plan which was about £145 with no excess. I claimed for a fuelpump on my old car, cost a bomb, they coughed up with no hassle at all..

CMSA? Civil Service?...unfortunately not

Are you forced to use NAtionwide Autocentres or some such chain? Or can you use anyone or a dealer? Any limits on labour rates?

Ok - looking at this from a different angle - what are the high cost, most likely issues with the petrol Vrs?

I'm not keen on paying WD in excess of £1100 for 3 years cover & Click4 seems too good to be true at <£450 for apparently superior cover - I just can't find enough independant reviews for them. Allams promised a price today - but it never materialised.

I am guessing one of the biggest risks is the turbo?

Any likely repair over £350/year.... Most repairs and engine components with fitting seem to be more than this. A Turbo failure within this period, though hopefully unlikely will be more than covered by the premium...

You can use a repairer of your choice. There is probably some small print accessable via the CSMA website (I am not affiliated to them in any way, just a recommendation from me as a past customer!)

Regarding CSMA membership, you can join if you ever worked for BT/Civil Service/Similar companies or are closely related to someone who has (and is a member themselves). I used to work for another telecom company so qualified..

I cannot recommend tesco warranties enough. I think I paid around £300 for the standard warranty for a years unlimited mileage cover. Max per claim is around £3K I think.

So far I've had around £1800 worth of claims from it, so its more than paid for itself.

All work carried out by a dealer of my choice !

ABS ECU

Tandem Pump

Fuel Pump

Crankshaft sensor.

Looks like you claimed so much you screwed it up for everybody else !

Tesco gave up but so far WD have been great for me

  • Author

Sounds like Tesco would have been a good bet !

Still nothing in the way of a price from Allams Skoda - all but given up. So unless WD come back & offer something more sensible - I think I am just going to take the chance.

Allams did get in touch & I have taken out a 2 year Skoda extended warranty.

They were a pleasure to deal with, Beth couldn't have been more helpful - so it's a thumbs up for Allams for me.

Thanks for those that pointed me towards them (Octavia5 & others)

Cheers guys - once again this site has proved to be a very valuable tool.
