Fabia VRS remap reliability

bought car from dealership with 37k mapped.... got to 40k boom new clutch and flywheel required

Jabbasport are just up the road from you in Crowland. They are the Masters off all things VAG, tuning as well.

I had a remap which contributed to early turbo failure, but you take your chances, I now have a Hybrid turbo and a map from a different company and it feels like a different car.

I think i was unlucky, but i would be wary of a car mapped by somebody i didn't know or trust.

Was that not with a whole hybrid setup on a standard dmf? Or are you just unlucky?

As for where to go, Unit 18 if your close enough, even if not well worth a drive.

Hi,

I have a fabia, and have had it remapped by unit18 in november.

was RR at 167hp and 270ft lb torque

performance is loads better, smooth and fast like a proper hot hatch

so far fuel economy has dropped from 50 down to nearer 46 on a tank, so thats about 400 till the light comes on, it seems to be able to burn alot more diesel when accelerating.

thanks for the advice...

alex

Hello Alex

I have not owned a standard VRs and was told by one Skoda specialist that a remap on the original was "a bit excessive". I don't think that you'll see much difference in motorway mpg. My trip computer usually shows 55+mpg after a motorway trip with cruise. But what is your commute like? Everyday A & B road driving is considerably brighter with more HP and torque. I rate my VRs in the same league as the VW VR6 that I formerly owned. Fun, but mpg drops to 35 to 40. As to mechanicals, so far so good, my main concern would be the DMF and I try to drive accordingly, but not averse to red lining from 2nd when appropriate.

Alright there.

I think I am going to check everything (tyres etc) as I dont seem to be able to get the same economy. I dont really have a commute and reqularly do a 80 mile drive down the a14 at 70ish all the way with cruise. Is yours an ASZ engine?

How many miles do you get on a tank, because the computer is not that accurate.

its good when remapped how much better they are to drive though!

Do you think accelerating below 2000rpm in 5th and 6th on the cruise control is too boisterous for the DMF, as it is not near full throttle?

Alex

Yes, ASZ engine

Never bothered about how far on a tank, but I can get to Newcastle and back without a fill.(from Peterborough)

There was a time when I could have told you precisely, but I have decided that life is too short to worry about it, and I don't particularly drive economy run style.

I would not do what you suggest re accelerating in 5th &6th below 2k rpm. It's not my driving style and I think it's a job for 4th gear (but only my opinion!).

My clutch is slipping after 5k miles on the remap and 55k total - do I go standard or modified???

Another +1 for Unit 18... http://www.unit18.co.uk

I was thinking abut getting my local garage to do it...

how long should I drive it for and will it be ok without an upgrade?
