0w30 Castrol Edge wrong oil for 02 VRS?

Featured Replies

Have searched the forum but there is so many posts I can't seem to find the answer. I have bought Castrol Edge 0W30 oil for my 2002 Octavia VRS. Looking through now I have noticed that Castrol edge also comes as a 5W30 which seems to be the recommended viscosity. I bought the 0W30 as I only had the choice of this or 0W40 in my local Halfords.

Will the 0W30 be okay or should I try to exchange it for 5W30?

yep wrong oil and a big no no on these cars

look on opie oils website it will tell you all you need to know buddy

i looked on there and got recommended 5w40 motul x-cess

hi mate,

0w30 Shell Helex? is what the car (well mine had) had originally.

VAG then moved to 5W30 for longlife service and 10W40 for 10K service

I went back to the 0W30 after my first service as I didnt think the car felt as good, I then found out that they put the 10W40 in lol so It was a good job I changed it.

If you can get it changed mate then I would. but unless anyone knows a good reason why not to use it then I would as its not cheap lol

I've always used Castrol Edge 5W-30.

Suitable for fixed and variable service schedules.

Motul for me too :) Motul 6100 Synergie 10w-40 (I'll have to check the top up can in my boot lol) VW specific

as long as it complies with vw 502.00 or 503.01 for fixed servicing or 503.00, 504.00 for variable you will have nothing to worry about.

castrol edge 0w-30 AFAIK meets 502.00, 503.01 which should be just fine in the octy.

Thanks for the advice. Was passing a different Halfords today which had 5W30 Castrol Edge so swapped it over. Just got to brave the cold to change it now!
