swapping ecu?

Featured Replies

i have brought another car and wish to put the ecu out of the old car that has the map on it into the new car can it be done and how easy is it to do???

you can get the ecu de-immobilized then it will go straight on otherwise you will need to get the ecu adapted to the dash and then the keys will have to be coded which is a pita, and mostly dealer only option, there was a company on ebay called more-bhp.com who will de-immobilize for 99quid, i was looking at this, but ended up using the new dash and keys an ecu together, instead of new ecu with my original clocks and key

what sort of money would it cost do you think for a dealer to do this????

But map wise this ecu would not be setup for the new car. You guys were always telling me to get custom because every car is different. :wonder:

Another option would be to get the map copied over, if you can find someone to do it. I believe most don't like to copy others work but it can be done.

buddy the mods will be exactly the same just want it on there then it can fettled with.

there is areason for it will explain another day .

if you have your old car then why not just swap everything the dash, ignition barrel, ecu then it will all be plug an play no faffing about

Do you have VCDS Clive? If you send me both ECUs I can extract the relevant codes and guide you on how to do it over the phone, or I can kill the immobiliser (for £60 by the way Trevor!) if you just want to send me your old (mapped) ECU.

you can save your map from old ecu using a galletto or kwp2000 and then ask some tuner to install it into your new one or take the risk and do it in the same way yourself

here is the basic how to:

a bit risky but not rocket science :-)

Only applicable if the ECUs are identical though.

is it possible at all to transfer the whole content of one ecu to another which is not totally equal and still make use of it?

i mean something like transfering a map and everything from lets say from 06A 906 032 HJ to 06A 906 0 32 HN or any other similar?

Yes :)

With the immobiliser codes off both the old and new ecu, someone knowledgeable with vagcom can do it in a couple of minutes. :) I remember getting it done on my fabia when I had the ecu from my wreck put in. Went something like log in to ECU with old code, replace ecu, change code on that ecu to the same as the old one (to work with the dash) then re-code the 2 keys again.

That's what I was suggesting in my first post Jason :) I can extract rhose codes.

in case of swaping two ecus with different last two letters like 06A 906 032 HJ with 06A 906 0 32 DR or any other combination is it just a job of reading the pins with vag tacho and then standard coding with vag com or something more exhaustive?

cheers

I wouldn't recommend running a different ECU, even on the same engine code there can be little differences that can cause running problems.

that's what i thought :-)

cheers
