Steering Rack

Featured Replies

In October 08 i had to replace my steering rack on my Octavia due to a seal leaking, it's only been on the car for 16 months and the same thing has happened again.

The rack cost me £534 from the dealership so it was'nt a cheap copy.

Surely this part should last a lot longer than that and i bet the part only has a 12 month warranty.

Have'nt phoned the dealership yet but they'll probably say it's out of warranty.

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers guys.

dont buy another new one from the stealership at that price, get one from ebay, either standard or upgrade like an r32 golf one

well to start with you must be mad buying a new part from the dealer like throwing money down the drain seconh hand is the best way and just replace the seals

i would amagine that its just one of the crush washers leaking on one of the connection unusual for the rack to fail that quick...........

your thinking the worst because of the last fault get them to check the connections first before they try to rip you off again with a £500 rack

Was told off another garage that the seals were leaking and can't be repaired,Skoda said the same.

I suppose the seals inside the rack could go.

Would be a pita too replace and I doubt if a garage or dealer would even attempt it.

I got a spare recon rack hanging round doing nothing only on the car a few months :D

Cheers mate,i got a price of a car parts shop and they quoted £197 including vat. Alot cheaper than £534.

I hope it's the correct one as it also fits an Audi and Golf.

go on ebay buy a second hand r32 rack you will get it cheaper and its better as its a quick rack kill 2 birds with one stone

I got mine for 120 off eBay so don't bother spending 200, just keep an eye on eBay, or talk to someone breaking an octy on here

Spooky lol

My rack exploded in style on Monday, the ns seal popped. So yes the seals can pop

I had a spare though lol

Power steering is for wooly woofters anyway! I wonder if there's a non-PA rack that would fit our cars?

Rip out the reservoir and pump......

Something off an old golf could fit maybe.
