Laptop GPS/Navigation Packages

Featured Replies

i'm sure a few people on here must use these systems so was wondering what is the best route to go down i.e software,GPS Reciever/where to buy from etc.

any pointers/advice much appreciated.

Laptop wise, the best software is either Autoroute or Route '66. For tthe GPS reviever, take a look down Tottenham court road, and compare prices on the internet unless someone on here knows of a decent laptop GPS reviever.

i know, but you can plug the road angel into a laptop and use autoroute

I use an IPAQ 2210 with TomTom, can't complain about it, its a very good piece of navigation kit with all the extras that come with a PDA. I also recently bought a tomtom go (for a non web savvy work collegue). It seems a nice piece of kit, much less messy if you have no need for a PDA. I believe that was

Does AutoRoute 2005 work with GPS?

Reason I say that is 2003 didn't, although it was sold as such. Let me explain I had an original Road Angel and wired the Serial Port to my Laptop to try the GPS Features, all worked great bar one major flaw. Autoroute was approx 40 Miles out. Checked the GPS Position with the Road Angel by Long & Lat and Autoroute report completely different. Then went on to Map Point to confirm my location was correct via Raod Angel. Anyway to cut a long story short logged called with Microsoft they tested it confirm the fault and refunded me my money even though I'd had it 9 months at the time. So be careful.

Got a TomTom Go system now and it's the Dogz Danglies :D

Autoroute 2002 works perfectly, with one slight exception in its standard form. It only updates position every 15 or 16 secs, (I can't remember which) This might not sound like a long time, but it's an eternity in a busy city centre. Having said that we navigated from Edinburgh to the South of Spain and back, including Paris and Barcelona in 2002 using an NMEA signal from my Garmin eMap and Autoroute 2002 on the laptop.

There's now a patch for Autoroute 2002 available on the Pocket GPS site which allows updating at different intervals down to every second which is as close to real time as GPS gets.
