Do you ever lose enthusiasm?

Featured Replies

This is probably one more for the people who mod their cars, but I`m sure you can all relate to it a bit. Do you ever go through phases of just neglecting your motor? I don`t mean not bothering with tyre and oil checks and stuff, but just kinda losing your way a bit with what you want to do with it? The past few months with christmas and new years and stuff my poor furbie has been right at the bottom of the list, since fitting the coilovers its not had anything done to it, and only been washed once :(

But then something will make me think, i`ll see a nicely modded car, or someone will comment on it, and then i`ll be full of ideas and enthusiasm again, wanting to work every rest day to pay for it all lol.

Is it just me who goes through this?

Matt

Nah, I do it too, and when I do get back 'in the zone' as it were, my mind changes constantly!

It's pretty normal I think.

Think most of us go through stages with them, especially if you have plans in mind. Plus it's a pretty rubbish time of the year!

As for washing and general car care, I think that's understandable at the moment. It's just not practical at this time of the year, especially with the current weather and if it's a daily driver.

Things will pick up as spring appears

I get that with the Moggy 1000, sometimes just can't be bothered with it. The reverse of OCD I think.

Yeah all the time!

I was at a low when I saw the rust in my floor pan, and I kept saying to myself "get it fixed and sell it", but browsing VWVortex just makes me want to get back into it.

I wish I had the space to do more things myself, and another car so I can take the Golf off the road and do it properly.

Ho-hum!

Yep, in a rut at the moment with it.

I modded many of my earlier cars (Strada 130TC, Fiat Uno Turbo II, Renault Clio 16V, Scooby Turbos etc) and then gave up when I realised that I was spending so much money, I could have bought the car I must have wanted, in the first place ‘Doh!’

I don't regret modding the above cars, but I wouldn't do it again (possibly with the exception of a minor boost tweak as it is relatively cheap)

I loose enthusiasm very quickly, i'm severely bored of my Fabia now to the degree it needs a service and i cba getting it done, although the service indicator isn't on but it's been serviced every 10k from new and i've now done nearly 12k in my 5 months of ownership. Clutch is slipping same scenario as the service and it's a mess inside and out and i cba fixing it at all. Also have Cupra bushes waiting to be fitted and an LCR Splitter i've had since a few days after buying the car yet to fit

I have plenty oil in it so thats not an issue and it gets ragged to death so it runs clean, RR operators comments were it's one of the cleanest running diesels he's ever seen. But i want something else, but nothing compares to the Fabia, so getting a FMIC and a helix 4 paddle clutch and try to get some enthusiasm back for the car

I get bored of cars very easily, i did want a Clio 200 but was in my mates and at speed it doesn't feel that quick at all, so it looks like turbo's for me from now on

My enthusiam has dropped slightly after dropping the gearbox on my finger whilst fitting and uprated clutch and flywheel. Currently the car sits on axle stands until at least next friday once I've had my stitches out :(

You know that`s just how I feel sometimes. When I find things that need doing on the fabia, I think how many miles its done and first think flog it, then I realise I`m actually a bit attached to it now, then think, if I had another car I could take the old girl off the road for winter and sort it all out. Although I do then remember I cant fix a flat pack chest of draws together let alone a clutch/turbo which is also a slight issue.

Matt

Quite simply.... NO

Yep,

Just wrecked my bumper with a coming together with a cat - £665

Popped a turbo, currently replaced with a VNT17 but spare is away for re-working - £1k+

Found a leaking shock when fixing the turbo - £not sure yet

Found a suspect brake caliper whilst doing the above - £same

All in 1 week, needless to say I am considering fixing it and pumping it on after a week like that.

I'm sure we will be friends again soon.

Its at times like this when you realise how much more important other aspects in your life are, family, studies, relationships, sports :D

Occasionally yes, when something's not right with the car I get frustrated with it.

But then I come on here and get enthused again. I've had the car for nearly six years now and I haven't finished with it yet!

Yep! right now have none what so ever, fed up with the vrs! It needs tracking sorting thanks to the numb skulls at main dealers drive's like a pig at the moment, but having this sorted today. Really needs a wash but it's bloody cold out and ive just got back from Egypt where it was 24C so dont fancy going out in the cold, but may help me feel better if i get it washed over the weekend. No plans for the vrs as im skint at the moment ....... :'( been thinking of getting rid and getting a mg zs180. Give it awhile and i'll probaly snap out of it and get back in to it! :smirk:

I find it's usually when you have to divert your resources to paying for the more mundane stuff that you don't feel or see a real improvment on. That said, if we all had bottomless pockets I doubt any of us would be half attatched to our cars as we are now. It's the will to earn that new item or part and get it fitted or have some work done to make it look as good as it can that makes the bond. Humans love that sense of something which is just out of reach, keeps us trying to attain constantly. If you're of an easily pleased kind of nature, you probably won't be all that into cars aside from getting from A to B.

I get frustrated as we are on a water meter, so my car only sees a decent wash 4 times a year  Its not a daily driver so doesn't get so mucky, but I would still like to do a bit more with it!

As for working on it, the time of year puts me off a bit, and I am a bit of stingy git with my money! :giggle: I have been helping my sister with her MX5 at times, which is great as she spends the money and I get to do a bit of work on it! :smirk:
