Felicia Longevity?

Featured Replies

Hello Folks,

I've just got my 1.9D Felicia through yet another MOT for the price of the insurance excess on a new windscreen (chip turned into a crack as per TV adverts) and a good wash. Needless to say, I am delighted to be motoring in my wee Skoda for another year!

It's got 159,534 miles on it now and I'm curious as to what sort of mileages other Felicia owners are seeing. Is it likely to get to 200,000?

I've heard the VW diesel engine is good for 300k if treated well, and I see no reason to disagree with that - my mum's one has only got 80k on it, and it looked immaculate inside when I had a nose about.

If it's not got any rust issues, then everything else can be fixed easily enough; as long as you look after the gearbox it should be fine.

my mates old man is runnin caddy with what i am told is the same vw 1.9 lump and thats kickin it around 270,000 mark

The engine on mine is running fine. It's a bit lumpy on cold mornings when trying to maintain steady revs along a flat road. I think it could possibly be a bit of air getting in at the hose connections on the fuel filter. But she's not using any oil and has enough power for a non-turbo diesel.

Sounds hopeful that she'll be running for a while to come, then!

Thanks guys.

Managed 192000 miles on a 1.3GLXi (1995, still with a Skoda engine). Admittedly it had a bit of a Blues Brothers style collapse around then, but it had at least 2 people learning in it and had been used to haul anything and everything all round the place.
