Changing a timing chain on a felicia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a 1.3 Felicia and my timing chain has slipped, so we thought we'd get hold of the Haynes manual and have a go at replacing the chain in the hope that then i wouldnt need to replace the whole car!

We've done pretty well so far I think, but we are now stuck. The oil pump drivergear at the end of the camshaft really wont budge. Has anyone encountered this problem before or have any ideas of how to get the damn thing off.

Please help i really love my little felicia and would be sad to see it go.

Thanks

ok well you may need a small 3 leg puller, replace the bolt in the camshaft a few turns and fit the puller behind the cam sprocket and gently apply pressure with the puller against the bolt, you will need to move the crank sprocket along too, should just pop off then

As Jim says. I've had a few tight ones, and have found that applying reasonable pressure with a puller combined with GENTLE tapping on the camshaft gear with a hammer (and you're replacing it anyway...) to provide a little shock to help it move has budged all of them, even the first one which seemed super-tight.

DONT try to lever on the drive gear for the oilpump tho as the teeth will break for fun

Thanks very much, it popped off pretty easily in the end with gentle tapping behind the teeth with a cold chisel. :)
