Hi,

I have a 10 year old Octavia 1.9TDI SLX and still running well. It has 150K on the clock. Generally we are very pleased with the car. It is a good family car, in fact we have had the car so long now it feels like part of the family.

I have had to have a new Cat and clutch fitted in the last year. She's getting a bit expensive to hold on to.

Anyway, I was thinking of trading in for a new one and taking advantage of the scrappage scheme while it still lasts. However, then the very real threat of redundancy came at work, so I put the plans on hold for another year.

I had a recent quote for some work but felt it was prohibitively expensive. Its been a few years, but I used to do my own maintenance, and was wondering how hard it is to change all four discs and pads. Do you need any special tools?

I also have a broken coil spring (very near the top so still drivable), and leaking shocks at the rear, as well as perished bump stops. I'm tempted to have a go at all the work, but again would appreciate hearing any other members tips, and experiences in these areas.

Cheers for now,

Tiz

Welcome :)

The work you need to do straight forward.

The only special tool will be spring compressor.
