Coolant Level Low Warning on!

Featured Replies

My Wife just called to say the coolant level warning has come on her Yeti ( 2.0 140 SE).

I quick peek by her showed very little coolant in the resevoir.

She called the Skoda Assistance folk - who told her as she was near a dealer to "put some water in it and drive it over to the dealer".

Well she poured about a litre of water in and got it to the dealer.

Dealer - as you would expect - is busy with other Service Business - so will have to wait a day or so to find out what the cause is.

Hopefully it's just a leak and not anything more serious.

Wife taking the train home tonight - and no car - just when more snow is predicted.

With a littke over 1K miles on the clock I wonder if our Yeti is just a little Snow shy???

Hi Graham,

sorry to hear your Monster is a little under the weather, hopefully a quick fix.

Took the wife's Corsa to work today to fill up (cheaper over there). Wished I hadn't, came back in very foul weather; driving rain, mist, snow and sleet plus low cloud on the Wolds top and then more driving rain on the other side. oh for a Monster

Regards,

TP

My VW Touran once guzzled a load of coolant, before its 1st birthday.

Topped it up - never happened again over the next 5 years - very strange.

Yeah - interesting whether the monster just felt thirsty - or it the level wasn't quite right from the start and now it's just below the line and complaining, or it's a leak perhaps.

My wife said the temp gauge was reading normal - just below 90 throughout this episode too.

We'll see what the garage comes up with .... and yes TP I can understand the difference in the Corsa, my replacement to the Yeti is a 1.2 Clio!

Thanks

Graham

I currently go between a 2.2 diesel and a 1.0 petrol....

roll on the 1.2 turbo !

Hi again Graham,

my coolant level was not on the max when I got her. Has dropped slightly since then, currently sat somewhere between a quarter and a third above min. Keep intending to drop a dash of water in; might prompt me to get on with it.

Just an update on this.

Garage have looked at the car today and conclude the water pump is faulty - part on order.

Not sure if the 2.0 litre 140hp Diesel unit is used elsewhere across the VAG range and if so - if faulty water pumps are common? - or maybe I've just been unlucky this time around.

My wife's view is still that our Yeti is Snow shy - given the amount of snow we're still having up here in Aberdeenshire.

Thanks for your support and comments.

Further evidence that our Yeti is snow shy.

Return of heavy snow today.

Get call from garage today - they say they ordered the wrong Water Pump - need to order another one. Will be a day or two longer. :'( Royally Miff'ed by that - but what can I do???

So that Car has been in garge now for 10 days and still nowhere near getting it back ont he road.

Further Snow forecast for Thursday, Friday and Sunday ....... I wonder when I get to drive the car again??

sos to hear yer woes Graham, does it rub salt into the wounds that my snow-monster handles the snow and snot with great aplomb? 5" on my track tonight and as sure footed as ever

leave me take a flying guess... Specialist in Aberdoom????

After consistently fouling up I binned 'em and went to mah wee manny in Maud...Victoria Garage provides a poles apart excellent service who don't consistently feck up! Of course this is my opinion of the "specialist scumbags" though I can accurately report to ya'll that I've successfully encouraged several colleagues (VAG owners) to do the same. They are once more "happy drivers" too

Aye t'was a case of "any port in a storm" .... aka...SWMBO in the City, worried that watever was leaking would run dry - and put Yeti into the nearest - only - Skoda Garage. Can't grumble really about that.

Will certainly keep your suggestion in mind if I ever get to drive the car again.

Thanks and looks like we've plenty more snow yet....

Final update. rescued the Yeti from the garag at last today. Car was ready onThursday but with 3ft of snow outside my house it wasn't possible to get to the garage and collect.

Done 50 or so miles and coolant is still there - so hopefuly thats the last of this little saga.

Had the Clio 1.2 going sideways a few times in the snow ( drifting snow) trying to get home - with SWMBO following behind in the YETI. SWMBO reported the YETI was fine... can't say the experience

in the Clio was anything I'd like to repeat!

Thanks for the update Graham,

glad you got home all safe and well; by the sounds of the weather with you at the moment my little escapade yesterday was but a flurry

I take it they replaced the pump in the end? any indication from the garage as to any obvious fault with the original?

Hi TP,

yes they replaced the whole pump - the guy at the desk didn't know the specifics, it being Saturday - this particular garage has no servicing done on the weekends, so there was no one to ask other the Salesman - and his

coment was - "Oh do I need to take money off you - ah - no I see it's warranty - o.k. then here is your key - cheerio!".

As a result I'll be taking Scunjee's advice earlier in this thread next time the monster needs some TLC.

Good news is the Salesman gave us a nice shiny "Customer Survey" form to fill in. So I can give the "gift of feedback"

  • 2 weeks later...

Had my Monster in for a suspect radio fault; while there they mentioned about a service bulletin for the water pump. Turns out this does not effect mine as she has the earlier CBDB 140 engine which is fitted with a different pump.

The service manager inferred that it affects the later (CFHC 140) as fitted to grahamr's Monster, which might explain the fault. Probably a duff batch :(

Hi TP,

Thanks for the News !!

A duff batch seems the most probable - hopefully they've fitted a good one now!

Wonder how many others are out there with the same issue - hopefully not many!!
