Octavia II factory sound system

Featured Replies

Hello

I am about to buy a Skoda Octavia FL 2,0 tdi elegance and here in Denmark we have an option for "Sound System" upgrade from the factory. It is a company car so it is better for me to get it from the factory instead of installing it when i get it.

Is it any good ? i have search the forum and google but i can't find any comment. So now i will try here.

In denmark it is blues headunit but i plan to upgrade to columbus. We pay 180% tax on cars so they only use the cheapest headunit. columbus will cost 3950£ if factory fitted

Hello,

On my own, my home speakers are a pair of great Dynaudio Contours 1.1 and I enjoy them quite much, so I would definitely go for Dynaudio.

Hope That Helps,

Stefano

If the sound system is like the pre facelift, then you get an extra 4 speakers (3 per door) and the whole lot is driven by an external amplifier mounted under the passenger seat. In theory it should sound a lot better as you get 3 speakers per door, but the 8 speaker standard system is also very good.

Surely Skoda dont offer the Dynaudio package on any models in any country?! I thought it was purely a VW thing. If they are dynaudio then Id go for it without a second thought but I think its more likely to be the system described by Mannyo above - an additional four speakers; same as on the Yeti and SUperb as an option. If it is this setup then Id suggest its worth the extra - especially if you listen to more complex pieces of music. The standard system is very good as a base system - here its a Bolero and eight speakers I think on the Octy. The only downside to the sound upgrade is that on a couple of occasions Ive heard a few resonating door panels due to the extended bass the system offers over the standard setup.

Thanks i have placed an ordre for a Octavia including the sound system. It is a company car so they pay the bill and i pay the Tax for usage

Hi Brian

that was the right choice. Heard the octavia with as well as without the sound system. The sound system is definately worth the little extra.

Instead of the std system which has a total of 8 speakers, the sound system has 12. In every door there is a midrange speaker extra. Also the woofers in the doors are larger.

And this difference is well heard. Basses are deeper and more massive.

The sound system has an extra 12 channel amplifier, which is on the latest cars, totally controlled over the Can Bus.

They still have problems with the newer amp in combination with the Bolero, but the Columbus works fine with it.

Only problem with the sound system is that the doorcards might swing with the basses. Causing a rattling sound. In Germany most dealers know of this problem and they can dampen the inside of the doorcards to get rid of the problem.

And here in Germany (Wuppertal) is a little shop which sells Columbus units. At the moment for 1320€. And as Denmark isnt far away from Germany there might be a possibility to have it sent to a place near the border. I can send you a link if you want.

Is this another factory option not offered in the UK?

Sarge.

I also have octy II rs as company car, so "home improvement" style stereo upgrade is totally out of guestion. That's why I opted for audience HU + sound system. I'm quite happy with the Sound System. Only thing slightly letting it down is poor sound deadening in the doors.. so at high volumes (18+ volume level) the doors start to rattle. But it's definately a good factory fit option plus it looks good :o
