SE Yeti 'Dolomite' Alloys - looking to swap!

Featured Replies

I know this is a long shot, but I'm getting my Yeti in April with the Dolomite alloys but would prefer the Annapurna alloys...I remember reading a post about someone wanting the Dolomite alloys and wondered if they fancied doing a swap?

You don't get if you don't ask!!

Thanks

Hmmm. Why would anyone pay extra for the optional Annapurna alloys only to swap them? Thats what Im thinking.... :p

Good point! However I thought there was a choice of 2 alloy types with the Ellegance, one of which was the Annapurna? I didn't realise they were an extra...

That was probably me but I don't have a Yeti yet and am unlikely to for a year or so cos I'm still paying for my Roomster!

Enjoy your car :)

ha at best you might get someone looking to swap standard Elegance alloys.

As FocusZtec says, nobody would specify the Annapurna alloys only to swap em'.

Where are you buying the car from? if it is a dealer, you might be able to sort something for some extra £. Otherwise, you'd have to buy a s/h set when they come up on ebay. But the car is rare as 'hens teeth' at the moment. So that is unlikely to be for another year or two.

I said it was a long shot! Picture the scenario...Someone buys the elegance model but HATES the standard alloys but opts for the annapurna as a slightly more pleasing option, all the while wishing they could own the alloys from the SE...Now I would be his dream come true ;) The Annapurna alloys are the same value/cost as the SE alloys so not a better quality product - it's just personal preference.

Really dont understand how you are coming to this conclusion. The Annaprurnas will have had to be paid for as a cost option over the standard elegance alloys so not sure how you make this equal to the value of standard alloys on a lower spec model.

Hi Lee,

I have the yeti brochure in my hand...I thought the Annapurna wheels where a standard option on the Elegance but I've just checked and they are in fact an extra £85 for the set. Doh! Didn't realise that. However, if they are bought individually from the dealer as a retail supplied accessory, they are £146.11 each, the same price as the Dolomite wheels each (i.e. they are not better/more expensive wheels). This is where I got the 'same cost' info from. Anyhow - it's no biggy! I'm not trying to upset anyone, it's just I remember 'OctaviaT81' saying if they got the elegance they would want to swap the alloys for the alloys on the SE so I thought I would ask the question

Are you basing what wheels you might like on your Yeti by their possible retail value? you might be better off buying some after-market high quality wheels. I have no idea from whom or where, not being into that sort of thing BBS perhaps. Their must be makers of wheels that produce one to suit you I should have thought.

Haven't considered that...Am not basing the wheels on anything other than I like the look of the Elegance alloys...

My thought exactly. From Halfords upwards. Alloys used to be common a muck and most car spares shops had a range to choose from. Probably VW specialists would be a good bet.

OK. Thanks for your help

Just keep telling people that they WANT to swop and eventually you'll convince someone that they do - simple mind games.... emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Many thanks for the message. I never did track a set down but kind of learned to love the ones that the yeti came with :)

Out of interest, how much do you want for them?

Out of interest, on the Annapurna alloys do the spokes stick out more, making them more likely to be damaged?

I found on the Dolomite rims they were nicely set in and so never got a mark on them.

But the new ones will be coming with Annapurnas...

Found the opposite with my SE, Dolomites were forever picking up scratches and stone chips; Moons so far have proved much more resilient to everyday road life.

With 225 tyres on thats a lot of belly to save the rim from getting marked.

I have the Annapurnas and the spokes do not stick out. My Yeti was a year old last week and has no knocks or scratches on the wheels. Long may it continue.

Handy, thanks.

Nearly 18 months on I've never had a mark on any of the Dolomites and was concerned the Annapurnas were going to be a pain.

Annapuras on my Yeti are fine, no scratches/marks due to kerbing. However, I had a puncture while greenlaning and drove a few yards with a flat, damaged the rim. When I enquired at a local wheel repairers he said that as they are 'diamond cut' they need a specialist to repair and that cost more than the price of a new rim. A new rim and tyre was £275.
