CLUNKING!

Featured Replies

my car, felicia glxi makes a clunking noise pretty much each time i turn a corner, or sometimes channging from 1st to 2nd gear, seems to be coming from somewhere beneath my feet.

Anyone got any ideas as to what this might be? as its getting rather tedious "/

Sounds like drive shafts if it happens on lock when under power.

I'm sure an expert will be along soon, but here's my 2p worth.

Could be driveshafts, but if you can feel it underfoot that would place it where the rear of the front wishbone bush is, so see if any play here or on any bush. Turning a corner would put this area under strain I think. If it is that noticeable, it should be easy to see if the bush is worn.

It might be easier to pop along to a tyre place or garage and ask them to check, they can get it up on a lift to get a better look/leverage on the bush.

Clonking? Is it related to road speed? Is it a regular noise, or just a one-off per turn? Does it do it more on full lock in reverse?

It always seems to be the same noise or noises as sometimes it clunks more than once, and i dont think that ithas ever happend in reverse

sounds like a wishbone bush worn or the mounting for it loose maybe

^^ yeah what he said, or an anti-roll bar bush(if fitted)

I had exactly the same problem. My mechanic solved it by tightening the gearbox central mount point.

most probably the rear gear box mounting. if it does it when you change gear or accelerate or decelerate.

I think that the problem has finally been solved. When my car had its MOT it had one advisory which was the offside front lower ball joint has slight play, apparently there are two different sizes of the ball joint and mine had the smaller one fitted, therefore causing this noise. I ordered the larger one and fitted it a few days ago and it hasnt clunked since, hopefully it stays that way.
