What price the badge?

Yes, I'm going for all the Skoda trimmings - front bumper trims, side mirror covers, lateral side strip inserts, rear bumper protective trim, door sill covers and stainless steel foot pedal covers.

Sounds good. Presume gone for a 170hp, otherwise might struggle a bit with the extra weight !

That's what I was trying to imply, that if you did need the rear seats for kids, use the roofbox option.

Or one of these... (I have the fabric version).

By the look of the second picture, I think the outboard is going on the back seat, and the kid in the box !!

Makes sense to me. It would be much quieter that way. I have never seen one of these before. V. interesting.

Yes, I've gone for the 170. Might end up fitting a Chip Express box to it also which gives an instant boost of 30 bhp, takes the torque to over 400 Nm and improves fuel consumption by about 10% - it should handle the extra weight then! ;)

, if you want to pay more for other peoples perception of you, you can What a great line . :giggle:

As stated on my initial post, I am replacing my Audi TT Mk II with a Skoda Yeti - a surprising move to more than a few no doubt. Of course, the image that's put across from driving a sexy, sleek Audi sports coupe is going to be very different from that of a Skoda 4x4 and I will have to accept that the Yeti will provide me with a very different set of attributes. However, I don't think I'm going to feel that much more humble once people set their eyes on the beauty I intend to be driving around in - a fully loaded Black Elegance CR 170 with all the trimmings plus a couple of extras from a German styling company. The badge is worth a lot to some people, the look of the car and it's purpose is the most important to me. As a compact 4x4 SUV, my Yeti (when it comes) will hold its own to any others on the market looks and performance-wise and will provide me the ability to throw all my outdoor kit plus mountain bike inside the car and go off almost anywhere without costing a fortune in running costs. Paying an extra £10,000 for that and just a better looking badge on the front and back just doesn't seem worth it. That £10,000 will be going towards a Mazda MX-5 next year (I will have the best of both worlds then!) emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I stand to be corrected but the CR170 is Audi TT TDi running gear with a prettier body on top is it not? emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I find that most people who know anything about cars know that Skoda now have a superb (excuse the pun) reputation for value and build quality etc. I have yet to have anyone to have anything but praise for my SM.

Let me throw my 2 pennies worth in here. We have a new shape Galaxy auto diesel which in fairness has been a great car. However we don't need something as big any more and wanted 4x4 as have difficult access at home, wife's work and we have an apt in French Alps.

Really love the Yeti but it is just a tad too small (boot wise !). So the next size up becomes really tricky, Tiguan boot is also too small, ditto Qasqai. So that left X3 (long in tooth and due to be replaced), Freelander (boot lip much too high for our dogs), Volvo XC60 and Q5.

Despite 5/6 month delay managed to get 9% discount from main dealer on a Q5 which means I can get 2.0TDi S-tonic (DSG) for under £30k on road. So we went for this, not for the badge, but because although £10k more than Yeti I really believe that it will have rock solid residuals (esp compared to Volvo). We also looked at the new Kia Sorento which although it has 7 yr warranty, great diesel engine etc.. still works out at circa £27k and which prob will take bigger dent on residuals. Ditto the new Honda CRV diesel auto which would have set me back about £26k - so overall the Audi is good value if you can find the capital in first place. I bet the new X3 when it arrives end of this year will be wrong side £35k once a few essential extras are added.

In summary we're getting the Q5 as it is the next size up to the Yeti. Also, I think overall quality of finish of Q5 is slightly higher as reflected in the price, but the Yeti is unquestionably on a par with TIguan, Volvo, X1, X3. If Skoda can make a slightly bigger version they really would be onto a winner. Nonetheless think there's a very good chance that in mid 2012 I'll be after used Yeti 2.0Tdi DSG to replace my smaller second car and to sit as an equal alongside our Q5.

I think that you have made a fine choice with the Q5; other that the Yeti emoticon-0105-wink.gif I cannot think of a better softroader (offset pedals aside). I am looking forward to seeing the upcoming Audi Q3; now that will be an interesting alternative to the yeti.

I'm replacing my M-B 230 SLK with a Yeti.

A few years ago, on my 50th birthday, I swapped my Fabia TDI Elegance Estate for a BMW 316 Touring. In reality the Skoda was not a worse car than the BMW but people thought it was.

So for me it's "Skoda, the thinking man's VW/Audi".

Well said! I couldn't agree more. There's no doubting it, I will miss the TT very much so, it's such a lovely looking machine. The Yeti will serve a different purpose but I'm quite convinced through so many reports that I will end up enjoying driving the Yeti just as much. There will certainly be more gadgets to play with inside (Sat Nav, Panoramic Sunroof, etc.) and I simply can't wait for the ability to efficiently transport my mountain bike.
