Trolley Jack - Heads Up

Featured Replies

Having got one of these the last time they were on offer I thought I'd give a heads up for the new deal starting on the 25th February.

Link is here and see this thread to complete the deal.

I got one of these two years ago similar price from Lidl, good bit of kit. I've only used it a few times though.

Might get one - seems a decent price and looks sturdy!

Compare it to the 2 tonne trolley jack Halfords do -- i'm convinced its the same jack just different badge. Have seen a few other names on this jack too, but Lidl's price is best.

Swivel feature looks handy. Already have a Clarke 4x4 trolley jack but might get this as a supplementary one when I don't need the extra lift height or the point I want to jack is lower than possible with the other.

I guess this handy hint may be helpful for anyone considering a purchase http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/149492-jacking-pad-for-trolley-jack/ :) (edit: should have actually clicked on the links in the first post as it is there :))

The axle stands look good :)

Axle stands seem to be same as the ones I bought a while back from Lidl. They're good and do the job, although I would quite like to get some ratchet style ones instead.

Thanks for this, I need to change the oil on 2 fabias this week and I had to throw my ramps away they were rusted to buggery. Just nipped out and bough the jack and stands for £22, cheaper than fleabay!.

Thanks for this link, I was only thinking about getting a trolley jack a few days ago and knew there had been some good advice/words of warning on here a while back.

Thank for the heads up john999boy.

Thank for the heads up john999boy.

No problem & thanks to rwbaldwin for adding about the stands - been and picked a pair up today.

Trip to Lidl tommorrow I think, I forgot about them even after you mensioned it at the snipe! Never mind nice reminder

Cheers John

Hoping to pick up a jack & stands on saturday. Means a trip into Exeter but it would be nice to have 4 axle stands again so during any detailing the car can be put in the air and have all 4 wheels removed for cleaning.

In the stand instructions it does say not to use 4 at once!

  • 3 weeks later...

I've bought a set of the stands and I wouldn't trust being under the car with them. :o The stays to the legs are held in by one single, loose pivot and if there is any slight sideways force on the car (e.g., tightening a bolt when you're underneath), that flimy mechanism will have to help support the car. Mine are unlikely to be used I think.
