Small but important Tech point

A quick question that I haven't been able to find the answer to in the forum nor on in anything published by Skoda (although I may have missed it).

What size are the front brake discs on the CR170/1.8TSI Yeti?

It appears that front discs are 288mm for most of the Yeti range but the increased performance of the CR170 and the 1.8TSI, is begging for the 312mm front discs as fitted to the Octavia vRS; does Yeti have them fitted?

Ive been led to believe that the 170 has the 312mm setup and the 1.8TSi has the 288mm disks! :(

Having asked the question it has got me thinking (dangerous course of action early on a Monday).

Here is a photo of my Octavia vRS on 17" wheels with 312mm front discs;-

and here is a photo of The Plumber's CR140 SE Yeti, also on 17" wheels;-

Doesn't the gap between the brake disc and the inner edge of the wheel look very similar that would suggest Yeti is on 312s as well?

Thanks for this; just what I wanted to know. I'm puzzled though as I had searched the Yeti forum on '312' and nothing came up; hmm. PS> just realised I didn't search the technical guides; Doh!

Nevertheless, good to know the CR170 has 312s, probably due to the weight; but surprised that the 1.8TSI doesn't have them as it ought to for the performance available.

The Yeti 170 CR Does have 312 mm front discs

So does that mean that you can upgrade the Yeti's 288's with 312's? If so I have a nearly new 312 setup in the garage going spare ;)

It is kinda hard to measure with the wheels on, but on my 16" wheels, you can barely get a finger between the disc and the rim. My guess was 320 mm, but 312 is probably correct.

Anyway, they work well. Almost missed a red light the other day and had to do a panic stop. First time in my life I have had all four wheels use the ABS at the same time - dry road too. LAdy with poodle waiting to cross laughed her *ss off. Not pushing C1 lemons on the Autoroutes in France needed a few 175 -> 90 km/hr in a hurry - no drama at all - except for the xenon flash in the other guy's mirror at 20 feet.

That initial fire of the xenons sure does get peoples attention.

Its difficult due to the slightly different angles but Id say there was more space between the caliper boby and rim on the Yeti. Saying that; theres no way a 140tdi would be running a 312mm setup from the factory anyway.

Don't mention the 'x' word anymore, Agerbundsen - there are people out there that don't like us lovers of bright lights....

Probably blinded the poor bugger. People can be SO cruel!

Please dont let another thread go off topic....

Could anyone confirm that the front Brake related parts are standard Octy 2 VRS parts? Im guessing they are but would like confirmation from anyone in the know.

17" wheels do limit the size of upgrade possibilty too but I wouldnt make the alloys bigger on a vehicle of this type.

Thanks
