Help problems with broadband

Featured Replies

I've just installed broadband on my computer. Using Tiscali no problems so far except the phone extention to my bedroom was not good enough so had to have a new extention fitted, got it all working including new e mail account but i use windows XP and like most people my wife also uses the computer and in the good old days she had her own internet account using dial up. Is it possible to have multi user access to the broadband connection. Also i have set up two e mail address's one in my name one in hers, no problems setting up mine how do i then set up seperate account??

Anybody had the same problems its a bugger to sort out if you don't know how to??

Carlos

Broadband is always on so you don't need multiple accounts like you did with dial up. If you want multiple PC's to use the Broadband Connection you need a Router.

For example I have a Draytek 2600 Router/ADSL Modem this is a 4 Port Ethernet Switch with inbuilt ADSL Modem so I can run 4 PC's off the one Broadband Connection.

From what you typed I assume you are using the same computer.

Most internet companies these days let you have more than one e-mail accout for each internet account, the easiest way would be to give her a new e-mail account and for her to e-mail all her contacts and tell them the new e-mail address. The reason being most companies delete pay-as-you-go e-mail addresses if the account they relate to isn't used usually within 60 days, and e-mail addresses are deleted for contract accounts when the contract is cancelled.

Outlook express and most mail managers can handle multiple accounts with great ease, I have 7 on mine, and different folders can be set up to "filter" e-mails to personal folders. This is not a difficult process and can be figured out quite easily.

I'm sure if you set up an additonal user in Outlook with her old details (username, password, pop3 and smtp servers) it'll work OK. I believe the act of me opening and 'downloading' my mail from my old dial-up account keeps it active.
