Fabia Fuse Layout -Not in the Manual

Featured Replies

Hello

This is my first post. I've just bought a Fabia 1.4 16V (2001) which is in excellent order but the rear windscreen wiper doesn't work. I've had a good look through the manual; but cant seem to see the fuse layout - although I do know where the fusebox is

Am I missing it - just that fuses are not even mentioned in the index

Any help much appreciated - I'm just hoping it could be an easy fix

If not - is it a big job to change the wiper motor ??

Many thanks

Jon

Welcome to Briskoda. The fabia fuse panel layout is on www.fabia-vrs.com although temporarily down at the moment. Changing the rear wiper motor is straight forward. the most challenging part is removing and re-fitting the boot lid trim

Many thanks - on a scale of 1 to 10, how challenging i.e is it too challenging not to bother and stick without one ??!!

You'll soon get p155ed off not having a rear wiper on the fabia TBH as the aerodynamics of the car result in a particularly dirty rear screen

With 1 being "easy as feck" and 10 being "no effing chance make a cake instead" i would say a 5. getting the wiper arm off can be a PITA and as I said the trim can removal can be tricky but the rest is plain sailing.

Get yourself a few replacement trim clips from your dealer (cost pence each) before you start incase of breaking and or bending.

Expect to pay +/- £70 for a new wiper motor or cheaper if you can source one from a scrapper

When mine packed up I just removed it and rubber-bunged the hole. I use a gunk stuff on the rear screen which keeps most muck & water off it. If it gets too annoying I just have to stop and clean it but not been that bad since I did it last April/May time.

You can't have read the owners manual properly because it is on page 186-187 and how to get to it is on page 165. However this is for a left hand drive car so you have to remember the mirror image of it. If you defiantly don't have those pages, you can download the manual from one of the sticky threads. It is also in the Fabia Haynes manual (both LHD and RHD). The fuse you want is no 32, it's top left had corner, 1 fuse down, it should be a red 10A one.

If it not the fuse gone then it's probably the motor. It is easy to change (only 4 nuts). I would suggest giving the wiper spindle a good soaking with release oil before trying to remove the wiper arm. As mentioned new motor/gearbox are £80-£90 new from Skoda but can be picked up at a scrapy for £20-£30. Try Skospares/Roadside Rescue as they are a Skoda specialist breakers yard.

Am i right in thinking the wiper arm simply pulls away from the motor ?

The wiper arm is held on by a single nut, pop up the plastic cap, undo, pull. If its stuck tight, you may need a wiper arm puller to get it off... mine wasn't too bad when i did it though, fronts are a lot worse.

Not sure if you need to remove the arm to change the motor? It has some removable gearing (i know, as I had to replace mine as the washer jet pipe seized inside).

It looks like this with the case and gasket removed. The metal gears just slide off. Not sure if you can replace the motor part without replacing the entire mechanism:

I don't think you can buy or change just the motor, you have to get the whole thing. It's only 4 nuts anyway, 1 on the spindle (holding the wiper arm) and 3 holding the thing into the hatch, you can just see the silver studs on the above pic. The only tricky bits are removing the wire connector and the other one is putting back the plastic hatch cover.
