Welcome to the forum. I guess that your interested in the Yeti as your name might suggest, I see that you have posted a similar question on the Roomster pages. Their have been questions and answers about cycle holders on this forum if you car to have a look around and their are one or two cyclists here as well.

Thanks Anthony - I've not mastered finding posts on the forum yeti (sic!). I can't narrow down the results from the search - any suggestions?

I've got a 1.2 S on order...arriving in 2 weeks!

Tried a Koala bear?

I have tried the search machine a couple of times since the forum was changed but got nowhere fast. You could do a search on Goggle pt the forum and cycle in the box and it should come up with something.

Hi,

Got one that we have used in our Roomster and is now in the Yeti and it works great. It holds our 2 mountain bikes securely (and safe from pilfering).

Take at least 2 seats out, drop the front wheel off and the fork locks into the bracket and then there is a special strap that fits around the seat post and clips into the seat securing brackets, so everything is held safe. The wheels can be an issue, but we just protect them with liners and strap to the back of the passengers seat.

Tony

I have this system on my Roomster and it works well, but you need to take at least 2 of the seats out to fit the bikes in and the seat post clamps are difficult to get on and off if your seat posts are particularly wide.

Overall though I'd rather use this system than having to have a load of gubbins on the back or top of the car.

I've ordered this option for my Yeti. Can anyone confirm that, if I only want to secure one bike, I only need to take one seat out?

I always take 2 bikes, but with only one bike you should be fine only taking one seat out.

Cheers for the info. Glad only one seat has to come out.

I ordered one but when it arrived it could not be fitted as the steel spare wheel took up the space where it went unfortunately, my dealer at the time thought that a modified one which would fit with the spare should/might be available in the future.

Hello there and welcome from another 1.2 S orderee. Without wishing to go off topic; may I ask when you ordered your car to be getting delivery in two weeks? Thanksemoticon-0100-smile.gif

I'll definatley be getting one- only thing is though at £200 it is bloody expensive! Why so dear? It doesn't sound like there's much to it.

Good point and my apologies for overlooking this in my previous comments. I do not have the spare wheel option and if you do then I can't see anyway that the internal bike rack can be used.

The problem with housing the spare wheel could be overcome by mounting it on a carrier outside at the back of the car. Such a carrier could be purposefully designed and made or just use a mounted bike carrier that has been adapted to carry a wheel instead of a bike.

With you on that one, on the back door rather than a cage below the boot, which might compromise the ground clearence. My Citroen AX had the cage thing which was good when you needed to get at the spare as you didn't need to empty the boot, BUT, I went to the car one day to find that the spare had been pinched ! On second thoughts maybe inside is better.

Ordered about 16th Dec. Fairly standard - with added parking sensors and ESP.

BTW the internal bike holder sounds like the business. Migfht have to dig deeper to get on.

Presumably it is easy to fit / remove. Anyone know?

I am not talking about a cage under the floor but a spare wheel hanger like those on proper 4x4 vehicles. If the outside spare wheel holder is designed properly there is no reason why the spare would be any easier to steal than any other wheels on the car. I have had spare wheels on the back of 4x4 machines for a number of decades and have never had a spare stolen to date and I can tell you some of the wheel and tyre assembles that I have had cost an arm and a leg more than the little things that we are talking about here. It was suggested by Le Plumber that the spare would only need to be carried this way when the boot volume is needed, at other times it could be put back in the boot. I am only suggesting this for people who need the space. If I get around to making one up I may just leave it hanging on the back end permanently.

Dead easy to fit (as long as you don't have the spare wheel). Two clamps lock onto the lugs just inside the rear hatch and off you go.

Sooo, Yeti is not a 'proper 4x4', and you live in a nice location where things don't get nicked one day and advertised on Ebay the next ? lucky you !

My X-Trail had its spare wheel under the boot floor, does that make it not a proper 4x4? And as I remember the old land rover had its spare in the back cab area.

Spare wheel on the back door eh? Not really something that I would want; a little, um, agricultural? Fair enough if you live for off roading and need to get to the wheel quickly but the Yeti is a crossover vehicle and needs to appeal to those with carpet on their floors......
