Felicia boot

Featured Replies

How complex would it be to smooth the boot over on a felicia? or how much to have it done?

It depends why you want it smooth really. Would a piece if ply or MDF cut to shape do it?

What do you mean?

Smoothing the boot lid is apt to take a while, and need lots of filler of some sort.

Fitting a false floor really just needs some wood (something water-resistant, not MDF), and wood-working skills.

I know MDF is not ideal, just throwing suggestions to see what he was trying to acheive. :wonder:

I would imagine it would be to create a smooth finish on the outside. I would have thought fitting a piece of mdf / something similar where the number plate goes, and then filling it with car filler might be the best bet. There is a curve where the rear badge is which might be difficult to work out if that needs removing too.

I had completely the wrong idea then. I thought he wanted to smooth the boot floor. :giggle:

Bizzare as this will sound given the posting times, your MDF suggestion wasn't displayed when I said "not MDF"!

Yeah, I noticed that this morning. When I typed it, it appeared straight away. Then I got several email notifications about posts I did yesterday too, even though they were already on the forum. :notme:

Hi mate; it can be done, but you'll need sheet metal skills or a shed-load of expanded aluminium mesh and flexible filler, cos you've got to fill the stock numberplate recess, the black trim strip, and the badge recess.

Whatever you do, dont use normal filler, the flexing of the tailgate when opening and closing will crack the filler, and then it will look very bad. The best way, and the most likely the way those in the pictures have been done is to shape and size a piece of sheet metal, and then have it welded into place. Once thats done the edges between the join can be smoothed out using a tiny amount of flexible filler.
