passed MOT today.... BUT

Featured Replies

Surprised they passed me to be honest. He showed me the underside of the car and showed power steering fluid leaking from the rack. Gave me a number to a power steering specialist. The specialist quoted me £250+vat for a recon rack supplied and fitted. I feel this price is quite reasonable!

Is that with any kind of warranty? They sell for slightly less than that on ebay (so i've seen) but obviously without warranty in most cases and fitting so sounds okay!

My reckon rack leaked from day 1. Both ends/gaitors and the main connection to the car. Quality isn't great IMO. Came with warranty though, but still a pain. Skoda claim they don't do reckon units anymore due to the high failure rate. My OEM Skoda one was £500 at cost, so might be cheaper to take a punt and have two reckon rakes over the same life span?

Don't take this as gospel though, I coulda just been unlucky!

Don't know if this is the type needed http://www.skospares.com/fabia_%28p-0000000010%29.html spotted them when browsing that site and thought it was a good price! There's a chance they're old stock though is my only concern.

It will come with warranty but I havent asked how much. Will be 12month minimum. My car is only worth about £1800 now(2001, 1.9tdi, 111300miles), but if it lasts another year i will be happy. Gives me more time to save up for a vrs!
