Engine Oil Flush on 1.8T Engine

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm thinking of doing an engine oil flush. Is there danger of blocking the oilways to the turbo? The car has done around 62K.

Thanks,

Nick

Flushing Oil is thinner than normal engine oil,and some of it gets left in the engine after draining, thinning the engine oil. I would use a cheaper engine oil , as a flushing oil.

What oil do you use normally, eg a LongLife oil?

I've always been a bit hesitant about using engine flush (it caused a minor issue with both mine and my brother's Polo 16Vs when we tried it) but the service receipts for my octy vrs show that the skoda dealer always flushed tjhe engine before oil change. Curious to hear what other people think.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. If you're not having problems, why bother. All it does is release some of the built up crud in the engine whcih could block the oil strainer or galleries, causing more damage.

Like Andy said, use the cheapest oil you can find, get it to temperature and then put the proper oil in.

I've noticed that after 6000 miles (since last oil change),my oil is still almost clear.

Usually I always add a can of Wynn's engine flush to the old oil before draining, but as it's still clear,I don't think I'll bother next time

I'm not disagreeing, but maybe worth pointing out, with that method you're gonna end up with a percentage of duff oil left in there.

My Octavia is on variable servicing hence I have always used LongLife oil. I expect that oil to do its job in keeping the engine clean between oil changes. I wouldn't want to risk contaminating new LongLife oil with traces of cheap oil, Wynns Engine Flush or whatever. JPTPW.
