In for 90K Service and Coolant Loss Issue Tomorrow

Featured Replies

As I've decided to keep my VRS for a few more years I'm trying to keep it in as good a condition as possible. Got my 10k oil change booked in at NG Motors in Cardiff tomorrow. I've also asked them to take a look at the slow coolant loss.

I've noticed that when i'm driving it very hard (flat out) the coolant level drops very slowly and there's a pink/white scum around the flap that comes down from the top of the coolant bottle. I've not noticed a collant loss from the radiator valve, which is often the cause. Finger's crossed that its something very simple (and not expensive!)

Service done, all ok for another 10k. Next one is 100k full service.

They pressure tested the coolant system and found no leaks at all.

Every now and then the coolant warning light comes on just after starting and when I look at the coolant level is it a bit low.

I've also noticed a pink dried scum around the top of the coolant bottle. what would make this come out?

Is it "boiling over"?

How about if you drive it flat out for a long distance, would this cause it to come out of the top?

I'd replace the coolant cap. Cost less than a tenner at the dealers and easy to replace
